Summary Of Position
Reporting to the Senior Director, Strategic Pricing and Contracting, in the Market Access group, this role will support contracting initiatives, pricing, and financial analytics across the company portfolio of products. Additionally, this position will work closely with the Director, Strategic Pricing to review new contracting opportunities, develop strategies and present recommendations to senior management. This role will require strong cross-functional collaboration on all activities to ensure organizational alignment. This role leads a team responsible for the development and administration of contracts across multiple payer and channel segments. This person should be familiar with and able to discuss different segments of market access, discuss contracting strategies and tactics, understand the various types of managed care contracting and be able to determine the potential value of a contracting opportunity.
Essential Functions
- Deep understanding of US Market Access environment, including payer landscape, role of PBMs and GPOs, medical coverage policies, and reimbursement.
- Knowledge of traditional and innovative contract pricing approaches.
- Capability of translating pricing strategy into prospective payer contracting concepts and archetypes.
- Oversee the management of the Contract lifecycle, including but not limited to drafting, modification, execution, amendments, and renewal of Health Plan Value Based Agreement (VBA) contracts across a portfolio of products.
- Understand contracting strategies and maintain current knowledge supporting data structures, business processes, and documentation for assigned accounts; assist with any decisions and changes required to adapt to business needs.
- In collaboration with Account Management, negotiate payer and channel agreements; supporting other managed care agreements as necessary
- Capable of fostering relationships, building alignment, negotiating and collaborating with home office and field teams.
- Lead internal cross-functional contract meetings including reviews of pre-deal analytics, meeting logistics, record keeping and distribution of meeting summary.
- Establish and maintain policies and applicable documentation (e.g., Contract Summary Report) in accordance with established departmental guidelines to support SoX compliance.
- Own relationship between Alnylam Market Access and third-party data aggregator by applying expert knowledge of existing processes, contract terms interpretation, dashboard metrics and drive process improvements.
- Able to manage multiple projects concurrently and maintain organization among various projects and work streams.
- Establish external and internal working partnerships with collaboration across Brands, Market Access, Finance, Contracting Operations, Legal, Procurement and other functional teams to ensure the agreements are operational, functional, and interpreted accurately for timely implementation and compliance with contractual obligations.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree is required, advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 year’s relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry including at least 5 years in pharmaceutical contracting, pricing, or finance.
- 5 years of team leadership experience
- Significant experience in Contract Development and Administration.
- Experience should include strong understanding of Managed Care, Medicare Part B, GPO, PBM and other Payer and Channel segments.
- Excellent analytical, strategic thinking and critical thinking skills with the ability to translate data into strategy.
- Understanding of key Payer and customer segments relevant to brand products and the US Reimbursement System across major Payer segments (Managed Care, Medicare, Medicaid, Federal).
- Creative thinker - able to identify, develop, and recommend process improvements, drive for efficiency, innovation, and differentiation.
- Ability to influence senior leadership and present recommendations for approval and support to execute.
- Attention to detail; p robes skillfully to get at the facts.
- Must have the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Competent with PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
