NEPA Project Manager (not suitable for an IT background) 


The NEPA Project Manager will lead environmental reviews of documents submitted by third-party preparers; coordinate with project applicants and consultants for additional information; correspond with state and federal agencies; and serve as signatory on environmental compliance documents. The environmental compliance review will include providing technical guidance and direction to staff and project teams, preparing, and reviewing technical documents, and ensuring high-quality deliverables are completed on time. The NEPA Project Manager will support the Senior Environmental Specialists (Team Leads) and the Deputy Program Manager for the overall contract. In addition, the NEPA Project Manager will mentor and train junior-level staff and conduct technical reviews of their work products. Environmental compliance activities will include reviews of Environmental Assessments and Categorical Exclusions.


Compensation and Benefits


• Salary Range: Up to $82,000

• Bonus Program.

• Flexible working hours are available, outside of scheduled field events, allowing for a half day off every Friday.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in biology, archaeology, geology, natural or environmental sciences, or related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience working with NEPA and/or permitting including developing and writing Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements.
  • Must have the ability to review environmental documents for technical and regulatory completeness.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all levels of NEPA and the environmental permitting process.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and ability to interpret and apply them in a project-specific context.
  • Experience working with state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and aptitude.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter, flexible team player, willing/able to work on a wide variety of tasks.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite, Microsoft Teams, Adobe products, and GIS.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Demonstrated experience leading (PM) preparation of a combination of NEPA documents with at least 5 EAs.
  • Experience reviewing and writing CEs, EAs, and EISs.
  • A working understanding of agency internal processes and procedures for federal agencies, such as the Department of Agriculture (USDA), National Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Bureau of Ocean and Energy Management (BOEM), US Forest Service (USFS), National Park Service (NPS), Bureau of Reclamation (BOR), FERC, Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), and/or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with CEQA and Section 106 of NHPA.
