Associate Director, Global Master Data Management Capability
What you will do

In this vital role the Associate Director of Master Data Management (MDM) within Operations will play a critical role in the Amgen’s supply chain environment by leading the organization’s efforts to manage and maintain accurate, high-quality master data across key operational functions. This position will develop and implement strategies for data governance, data stewardship & execution, and data quality management while ensuring compliance with industry regulations, such as GMP/GxP and FDA requirements. This role will impart a deep understanding of pharmaceutical industry operations, including manufacturing, supply chain, regulatory compliance, and quality control.
The Associate Director will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Manufacturing, Supply Chain, IT/DTI, Regulatory, Quality, and Finance, to ensure consistent and accurate master data management to support business processes, decision-making, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and Lead MDM Strategy: Define and implement a comprehensive Master Data Management strategy for operations, aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements.
Data Governance: Establish and lead data governance frameworks, policies, and standards to ensure data integrity, consistency, and quality across the organization.
Data Stewardship: Oversee the creation, maintenance, and validation of key operational data entities (materials, products, customers, plants, TSPs) to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with departments like Manufacturing, Supply Chain, IT/DTI, Regulatory Affairs, and Quality Assurance to streamline data management processes and support key business initiatives.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all master data practices meet global regulatory standards, including FDA, EMA, GMP, and other pharmaceutical industry regulations.
Continuous Improvement: Find opportunities to enhance data management processes, using new technologies, automation, and best practices.
Team Leadership: Lead and develop a successful team of data stewards and analysts, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Data Quality Management: Monitor and improve data quality metrics, driving initiatives to cleanse, validate, and enrich master data for optimized operational performance.
Systems and Tools Management: Work closely with IT and system administrators to ensure that MDM systems (e.g., ERP, SAP, PLM) are optimized for operational needs.
Risk Management: Identify data risks within operations and develop mitigation strategies to safeguard data accuracy and compliance.
Reporting & KPIs: Establish and report on key performance indicators for master data management and operations effectiveness, providing insights and data-driven recommendations to leadership.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 3 years of Supply Chain, Master Data Management, and/or Engineering experience
Or
Master’s degree and 7 years of Supply Chain, Master Data Management, and/or Engineering experience
Or
Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of Supply Chain, Master Data Management, and/or Engineering experience
Or
Associate’s degree and 12 years of Supply Chain, Master Data Management, and/or Engineering experience
Or
High school diploma / GED and 14 years of Supply Chain, Master Data Management, and/or Engineering experience
In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have a minimum of 3 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above
Preferred Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in Supply Chain, Master Data Management
5+ years in a leadership role within the pharmaceutical industry
In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing, supply chain, and regulatory environments
Strong experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.), data governance tools, and data management
Expertise in data governance frameworks and master data best practices
Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as FDA, GMP, and EMA
Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of building and managing successful teams
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills
Experience driving cross-functional initiatives and managing multiple stakeholders
Ability to manage complex projects, prioritize, and deliver results in a fast-paced, regulated environment
Demonstrated Leadership and Experience:
Demonstrating thought leader-level abilities and a proven record of success in designing and implementing MDM solutions within organizations like Amgen.
Leading cross-functional teams for sourcing, cleansing, deduplication/match merge for master data.
Experience in implementing data quality rules and maintaining translations between source and consuming applications.
Working experience with SAP ECC, S4 HANA, and other data quality tools.
Leading technical and functional teams for MDM implementations.
Addressing Supply Chain, Customer, and Operational requirements for MDM (e.g., Plant, BOM, Routers, Work centers).
Applying agile methodologies and global delivery centers to achieve a track record of successful delivery.
Implementing stewardship and data governance processes and standards.
Team Leadership & Functional Expertise:
Providing functional and technical MDM expertise to help with practice growth initiatives.
Developing the MDM Implementation playbook, delivery maps, and estimation model for projects requiring master data creation or support.
Developing and presenting MDM thought leadership to senior leadership teams within Global Supply Chain and other functions like Quality, Manufacturing, and Clinical.
Assessing that MDM offerings are aligned with industry-leading practices.
Displaying strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients and partners.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
