Job description

Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, hello, hiya, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.

About the role

Reporting to the Climate Lead, you’ll play a supporting role in Canva’s internal and external global climate and sustainability reporting, across all relevant jurisdictions.

In this role, you’ll work across diverse data-related tasks, from number crunching to providing actionable insights that help reduce Canva’s environmental impact. You’ll be key in collecting, analysing, and interpreting data to support compliance requirements and monitoring Canva’s progress toward its climate goals.

This role offers an opportunity to work closely with the Climate Lead and internal partner teams, build expertise in sustainability reporting frameworks, and make an impact on how Canva tracks and communicates its environmental impact.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Supporting the yearly measurement of Canva’s carbon footprint across Scopes 1, 2, and 3, helping to monitor progress toward climate targets.
  • Assisting in collecting, organizing, and analyzing sustainability data to support reporting efforts and disclosures aligned with global frameworks (e.g., ISSB, TCFD).
  • Gathering and analysing sustainability data, including emissions data, and developing insights to inform strategies for helping Canva reach its net zero goals.
  • Owning the creation, maintenance, and evolution of an environmental assets register, providing easily accessible records of all of Canva’s carbon, energy, and other credit and certificate instruments.
  • Helping ensure Canva maintains an accurate view of its climate risks, opportunities, and sustainability metrics to drive strategic decisions.
  • Collaborating with various teams (Finance, Legal, Real Estate) to collect relevant data and ensure compliance with upcoming sustainability disclosure regimes.
  • Contributing to the creation of Canva’s Annual Sustainability Report by supporting the compilation of key figures, targets, and impact data.
  • Partnering with Finance and Legal to support the development of an operational roadmap to ensure the systems, processes, and data sources are robust and enable effective assurance procedures.
  • Partnering with the FP&A team to integrate sustainability data into business forecasts, providing a holistic view of sustainability across different areas of the business.

You're probably a match if you

  • Love diving into data: You enjoy collecting, analyzing, and organizing complex sustainability data to uncover insights that drive impactful decisions. You’re comfortable with tasks like manual number crunching but also see the big picture, turning numbers into actionable strategies for reducing emissions.
  • Understand sustainability frameworks: You’re familiar with frameworks like TCFD, ISSB, and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. You’ve got a handle on upcoming climate-related disclosure requirements.
  • Are a natural collaborator: Partnering closely with many internal teams such as Sustainability, Finance, and Legal teams and external stakeholders in the achievement of ambitious climate goals excites you. You thrive on teamwork, and you’re always ready to contribute sustainability insights that help influence broader business strategies.
  • Understand sustainability assessment processes: You have experience or are excited to work with recognized sustainability assessment processes such as materiality assessments, climate risk and opportunities assessments, and future climate resilience scenario modeling.
  • Understand measurement approaches: You understand the benefits and tradeoffs between spend-based and lifecycle-based measurement approaches and can translate sustainability data into financial outcomes, helping stakeholders make informed business decisions.
  • Have a passion for sustainability: You care deeply about the environment and are excited to contribute to Canva’s mission to achieve net zero.
