Position at Confluent Germany GmbH

With Confluent, organisations can harness the full power of continuously flowing data to innovate and win in the modern digital world. We have a purpose that drives us to do better every day – we're creating an entirely new category within data infrastructure - data streaming. This technology will allow every organisation to create experiences and use the power of data in ways that profoundly impact the way we all live. This impact is our purpose and drives us to do better every day.

One Confluent. One team. One Data Streaming Platform.

Data Connects Us.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Senior Manager to lead and grow our Flink deployment and coordinations team. Our mission is to deploy, upgrade, deprovision and scale our Flink offering on Confluent Cloud guaranteeing seamless elasticity, cost efficiency and resiliency. We are a team of engineers combining distributed system, cloud technology and software development skills to build as solid foundation for our Flink based Stream processing product.

In this role you’ll be responsible for managing and expanding the team, setting a vision and technical strategy. The ideal candidate has deep security knowledge and experience in a similar role in the domains of cloud-native distributed system engineering. You will work with key partners in our Stream processing unit and Flink engineering teams, and establish partnerships and collaborative relationships with engineering groups building out products in the cloud.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead and develop the Deployment and Coordination team, and advance the maturity of our capabilities to ensure a true cloud native stream processing experience
  • Help solve distributed system engineering problems in a multi-cloud, multi-region, and multi-account environment leveraged by many engineering teams
  • Identify ways to improve the Deployment and Coordination tooling ecosystem, and own key vendor relationships ensuring capabilities can scale with our growth
  • Stay up to date on the evolving cloud native landscape and adversarial techniques, and prioritize engineering plans to seamlessly scale Flink on Confluent Cloud
  • Improve Incident Response (IR) methodologies to ensure rapid and effective mitigations and remediations of deployment and coordination incidents
  • Cultivate and grow a high performing team of engaged engineers who will continue to evolve and build the cloud native aspect of our Flink product

What You Will Bring:

  • 3+ years of Management experience, and 10+ years of distributed systems (preferably focused in stream processing)
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals background, especially knowledge of distributed systems and stream processing
  • Proven experience in maturing detection capabilities in a cloud-first environment, leveraging best practices for scalability and performance
  • Proven experience in maturing operational maintenance practices, especially around deployment and rolling software
  • Decision maker with a data-driven mindset and the ability to operate with freedom and autonomy
  • The knowledge, experience and perspective necessary to own outcomes, influence stakeholders, and provide effective leadership when it comes to keeping our customers and our product safe
  • Ability to own and oversee numerous initiatives, while working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, and adjust priorities upon evolving business needs
  • Experience in hiring, mentoring, and developing remote teams of high-performing engineers
