Job description

  • Join a people centric company with recent accolades including Gallup’s Great Place to Work, UK Top Employer 2024 and Glassdoor Best Places to Work 2024
  • Lead the effective procurement and management of legal suppliers within our claims function
  • A fully remote opportunity with nationwide travel and monthly visits to our Head Office in Stratford-upon-Avon

About the role:

We’re excited to share an excellent new opportunity for an experienced professional to join NFU Mutual as a Claims Supply Manager. In this role, you will lead the performance management of our claims legal panel suppliers, with activities including involvement in sourcing, contract negotiation and relationship management, and ensuring compliance with performance standards and governance frameworks.

You will be responsible for researching, sourcing, and recommending cost-effective legal supplier solutions which meet business needs. You will analyse financial, operational, and legal data to ensure suppliers meet procurement, compliance, and risk standards.

A critical aspect of the role will be building positive and successful strategic partnerships that support the delivery of NFU Mutual’s Claims performance and strategic goals. You will oversee supplier performance, ensuring adherence to SLAs and NFU Mutual’s guiding principles and to ensure legal service providers fulfil business requirements, deliver excellent customer satisfaction and high-quality services. Another aspect of the role will be to work with suppliers and the business to identify, challenge, and develop innovations and improvements that enhance service, value, cost control, and risk management, positioning NFU Mutual ahead in its target markets.

As a key member of our Head Office Claims function, you will facilitate strong relationships between suppliers, internal teams, Agents, and customers to optimise operations, build trust, and maintain cultural and strategic alignment. You'll also work closely with key departments and stakeholders, and have close contact with industry bodies, the wider supplier’s market and competitors to ensure effective delivery of objectives and promote NFU Mutual. Additionally, you'll advise and influence the business on supplier strategies, ensuring costs, risks, opportunities, and customer outcomes are thoroughly considered.

Please note that this role requires a full driving licence.

About you:

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented professional with extensive experience in supplier management. Experience managing insurance claims suppliers is essential for this role, and although specific experience of managing legal panel solicitors will be seen as highly advantageous, it is not a pre-requisite for the role.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in managing supplier contracts to include negotiating terms, SLAs, and pricing, as well as drafting agreements. You will possess strong communication skills and the ability to build impactful relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Your confidence as a negotiator will enable you to reach agreements efficiently, influencing decisions and outcomes effectively.

Additionally, you will demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

  • Experience in MI analysis and a solid understanding of business reports: You should have a strong background in Management Information (MI) analysis, enabling you to interpret complex data and derive actionable insights. A solid understanding of business reports will allow you to contribute to strategic decision-making processes and assess supplier performance effectively.
  • Proficiency in creating business documents and reports, complemented by excellent literacy and numeracy skills: You will be skilled in producing various business documents, including contracts, proposals, and performance reports. Your excellent literacy and numeracy skills will ensure clarity and accuracy in your written communication, facilitating effective collaboration with stakeholders across all levels.
  • Strong attention to detail: Your meticulous approach will be essential in reviewing contracts and agreements, ensuring compliance with standards and reducing the risk of errors. This attention to detail will also enhance the quality of reports and documents, supporting informed decision-making.
  • Ability to influence decisions without direct authority: You should possess the capability to influence key stakeholders and drive initiatives without having direct control. Your strong interpersonal and negotiation skills will help you gain buy-in and foster collaborative relationships, ultimately leading to positive outcomes for the organisation.
  • A proactive and organised approach: Your proactive mindset will enable you to anticipate challenges and identify opportunities for improvement in supplier management. An organised approach will help you prioritise tasks effectively, ensuring that deadlines are met and projects are executed smoothly.

The achievement of/progress towards a professional qualification such as the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) or the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) would be preferred, though is not essential for this role.
