Engineer (Structural)

This position requires an active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret clearance to be considered.

The Structural Engineer will assist with structural system evaluations and assessments with reports and tracking spreadsheets; roads, pavement, building renovations and new building facilities and site/building conditions. All projects are considered broadly structural and sub-assigned to other specialties as needed.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Engineer: $114,000 to $120,000.

Pay commensurate with experience.

Engineer Responsibilities Include:

  • Review plans, designs, drawings, and specifications prepared by licensed professional engineers.
  • Participate in design reviews, charrettes, DBB and DB project planning, Functional Analysis Concept Development (FACD), Request For Proposal (RFP) development for MILCON and Facilities Sustainment, Repair and Modernization (FSRM) projects.
  • Provide design comments during all phases of review and resolve design issues with Federal Agencies (NAVFAC, USACE, etc.).
  • Coordinate, validate, and distribute all design plans and specs and project turn over documents to MARFORRES FAC department, including but not limited to: As-built/Pre-Construction/Construction/Shop Drawings, Operations & Maintenance Support Information (OMSI) documents, Commissioning reports, Utility one-line drawings, Beneficial Occupancy documents, Final inspection deficiency resolution, and Beneficial Occupancy sign-offs.
  • Review and recommend Collateral Equipment Requirements.
  • Manage critical initiatives, objectives, and all aspects of operations management associated with FSRM and MILCON scope project requirements.
  • Identify new or changed planning standards, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFCs), U.S. laws, Executive Orders, and Department of Defense (DOD) regulations; propose changes to current Program and Initiative planning to incorporate these revisions. Review proposed changes and provide alternatives for compatibility with existing schedules, planning studies and zoning criteria. Assist and support MARFORRES Facilities with researching and apply UFCs, MCOs, technical criteria and other requirements for the development of projects and planning documents. Identify discrepancies and/or inadequacies relative to U.S. standards and requirements and inform & make recommendations to MARFORRES Facilities Directorate.
  • Coordinate with construction agencies, MARFORRES FAC, and affected units on construction impacts to unit operations.
  • Support and oversee repair/FSRM/MILCON projects, to facilitate schedule and cost adherence, coordinating with MARFORRES FAC personnel and stakeholders as required/applicable.
  • Provide draft meeting minutes and project reports to MARFORREES FAC staff .
  • Maintain communication with the project sponsors and MARFORRES Facilities, on all aspects of assigned projects to ensure stakeholders are informed of project status against planned project baseline.
  • Review project RFIs/MODs and report cost and construction schedule impacts.
  • Assist and support with organizing facility planning, management and other requirements, to include stakeholder coordination efforts for MARFORRES Facilities.
  • Maintain issue/RFI/MOD log throughout all project phases to identify and have clear understanding of all outstanding project issues, plans for resolution, status and verification upon request by the Government.
  • Maintain project comment lists throughout all project phases to coordinate all comments with project stakeholders and ensure timely submission and response to comments made.
  • Generate and provide other analyses, reports, and briefings as required to keep key stakeholders informed, enable decisions, and maintain project momentum.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Engineer Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of experience.
  • Professional Engineering/Architectural License, required.
  • Working knowledge of the DoD and Marine Corps policies and regulations related to facilities planning and engineering projects of special and MILCON scope.
  • Experience working on DoD installations on facilities projects, maintenance, and operations, preferred.
  • Experience managing MILCON projects ($50M-$150M) and special projects ($200K - $2M), preferred.
  • Experience with facilities planning and programming (MILCON / special projects scope), preferred.
  • Experience working with NAVFAC and Army Corps of Engineers, preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • The ability to obtain a Clearance or Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Ability to successfully pass a drug screen and federal background check.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft operating system, Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat DC.
  • Use USMC information systems applications including Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Project.
  • Competent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Travel – approximately 50%
  • Remote work – negotiable
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
