Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Finance Director to join our mission-driven team, focusing on empowering grassroots movements for racial justice and social transformation in California. This remote position plays a crucial role in establishing our financial operations and supporting our strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive long-term financial strategy that includes detailed models, analyses, and forecasts to ensure organizational sustainability.
  • Establish and oversee effective financial and cost accounting systems, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Manage all finance-related functions, including accounting, internal controls, payroll, and financial operations.
  • Create efficient systems for grant disbursement to organizations within our network.
  • Lead annual audits, working collaboratively with external auditors while preparing necessary financial statements and tax documentation.
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial reports, specifically tracking restricted funds for stakeholders.
  • Partner with program leaders to ensure financial resources align with program priorities and guide necessary resource allocation.
  • Provide strategic insights on financial matters to support organizational goals and objectives.
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders about budgetary challenges and opportunities, facilitating adjustments when necessary.

Required Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of US GAAP and experience in nonprofit financial management.
  • Proven ability to build and implement finance systems and controls in a growing environment.
  • Exceptional analytical capabilities to operationalize strategic visions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, including effective collaboration with staff, leadership, and boards.
  • Strong communication and collaborative leadership skills.
  • Extensive experience in grants management and engagement with public funders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is required; an MBA or CPA is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, particularly in complex nonprofit organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets exceeding \(10 million and reserves of at least \)50 million.
  • Experience serving as a strategic partner to CEOs or Executive Directors.

Compensation And Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position with a starting salary of $200,000. We offer a competitive benefits package, including:
