The Role

The Account Manager position works directly with our community of customers and internal teams to ensure customer happiness and success, with a substantial emphasis on revenue generation by upselling products and services to ensure that our community is getting solutions to their challenges. This role is responsible for achieving new Community Relations engagement and revenue goals in an assigned territory and assisting the Community Relations team in achieving its team goals. From lead generation through to product demonstration, relationship development, and closure, this role requires ownership of the planning and execution. The role offers a challenging opportunity for a sales-driven product/subject matter specialist who wants to make a measurable impact. A successful candidate will have excellent presentation, demonstration, and relationship skills.


Role Specifics

  • Work Location: Remote, US
  • Travel: This role will require frequent travel, at approximately 30-50%, but it may fluctuate up or down depending on the time of year. This includes, but is not limited to: events, conferences, trade shows, corporate office visits, and visiting customers within the assigned territory. 
  • Reporting Structure: Reports to the Senior Manager, Sales.


What You Will Own

  • Manage assigned territory to achieve new customer revenue goals
  • Outbound prospecting and market coverage via email, phone, Zoom, and other mediums as required
  • Manage and develop a pipeline from initial lead to deal closure
  • Effectively demonstrate the full range of StarRez product solutions, both online and in person
  • Provide market insight and customer requirements to better position existing solutions, as well as, provide feedback for new product development and future evolution
  • Build long term relationships with customers, and industry leaders
  • Leverage infrastructure tools such as Salesforce, Groove, Gong, SharePoint, to build market/prospect data for effective data analytics and market insight
  • Support company marketing and sales initiatives
  • Maintain trusted relationships with all stakeholders for a customer, which could include, but not limited to, CIO, Dean of Students, Vice President of Student Affairs, Director of Housing, Assignments Director, Housing Operations, IT Director, Business Analyst, etc.
  • Develop prototype solutions tailored to customer needs
  • Work with internal teams to review and scope configurable solutions
  • Licensing, invoicing, and assisting the Finance team with collection management, at times, for assigned accounts
  • RFP/RFI analysis and responses; contract negotiations; addendum preparation and management
  • Employ tactical and strategic measures to ensure that assigned accounts are satisfied beyond their expectations

  • Intermediate knowledge with the following tools: MS Office Suite, Salesforce

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years of experience in a higher education leadership role (housing focused), utilizing StarRez (or similar) software to improve operations.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in or with Higher Education institutions and/or private residential communities
  • Mid Level or Senior Housing Officer leadership within Higher Education
  • Proven track record in an environment that is responsible for revenue generation and/or sales cycle, including prospecting for a portion of opportunities
  • Understanding of the strategic competitive landscape of the industry by staying up to date with trends and the StarRez community needs so you can effectively position StarRez within accounts
  • Experience leveraging and partnering with internal team members on business strategies
  • Be self-motivated, disciplined, and able to work independently
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to successfully build rapport with stakeholders.
  • Experience negotiating agreements.
  • Strong desire to engage with customers to ensure they are happy with existing solutions and find new opportunities to solve their challenges to generate and develop leads within your territory
