Job description

 

Random House is seeking a Designer to join our dynamic Art Department and contribute to the design of commercial fiction imprints, including Ballantine, Bantam, and Dell. As a pivotal member of our team, you'll be responsible for crafting visually captivating book covers that resonate with readers across various genres, including mystery, thriller, romance, and fantasy. 

 

An ideal candidate possesses a strong foundation in design principles, a keen eye for aesthetics, and a genuine passion for books. You'll be collaborating closely with editorial, managing editorial, and production teams to create visually stunning book covers for a diverse range of fiction and non-fiction titles, both in print and digital formats. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Proficiency in Adobe Design Suite is required (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator) 
  • Must be highly organized, able to multitask and good under pressure 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Team player that is collaborative and detail oriented 
  • Excellent at time management with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines 
  • Illustration and handlettering a plus but not required 
  • Minimum of two years relevant experience 

 

This is a remote-eligible position, but candidates will be expected to work during East Coast business hours.  

 

Responsibilities 

  • Provide design support for Art Directors
  • Work and collaborate with Editorial, Production, Prepress and Managing Editorial teams 
  • Assist with the creation, archiving and routing of book assets 
  • Manage multiple projects while maintaining high standards of quality control 
  • Meet production schedules and prepare files for press 
  • Commission artwork 

 

The salary range for this role is $63,000 - $69,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
