Job description

Leonardo.AI is an Australian generative AI start-up that has recently raised $47 million in funding.

The Sydney-based company is aimed at people in creative industries, including gaming, advertising, fashion and architecture. It lets users save, edit and build images and video in real time, including dedicated model training for custom creations. Leonardo.Ai aims to be one of the biggest players in the generative AI space, and we are looking for talent to join the research team.

Leonardo.Ai offers four fully funded 3-month internships, paying a $3,000 AUD monthly stipend. You will be embedded into our  research lab and will conduct research under the following broad themes:

  • Generative AI and LLMs;

  • Deep learning;

  • Neural Networks,

  • Diffusion models;

  • High performance computing.

In this internship, you will be paired with one of our generative AI researchers and you will work on a bleeding-edge project that will directly impact the company and site. This offers a unique opportunity to learn Generative AI skills from a leading Australian company, including being mentored by the engineers and researchers breaking ground in this field.

Requirements:
  • Current PhD students (ideally 2nd to 3rd year)  studying AI, Computer Vision, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics or equivalent experience outside of academia.

  • A high level of coding experience in Python, Linux, PyTorch and GitHub is desirable.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated aptitude for research and high-functioning curiosity.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to our research methods and technologies.

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Availability to commit to a full-time internship for the duration.

  • The ability to travel weekly to our Sydney office is desirable, but remote applicants (international included) are also welcome.

We anticipate students will take a leave of absence from their PhD, or integrate the internship into their PhD work.

We anticipate that successful applicants will start working with us in mid-March.

Typical Interview Process

While we love technology, rest assured that our interview process is all human. A Talent team member will review your application, and we'll contact you either way to let you know the outcome. Here's what you can expect.

Round 1 - Meet Your Recruiter:

  • Our Talent team will reach out and arrange a 30-minute video call where you'll cover your experience, skills, and career motivations. You'll also get essential context about the role, the team, and how you can contribute towards our goals.

Round 2 - Craft Interview:

  • You'll meet some team members to discuss the technical task in more depth, work through some technical questions related to your expertise and cover past projects, experience and career aspirations.

Round 3 - Technical Task:

  • If you're applying for a technical role, you may be given a short take-home task to assess your skills and approach to problem-solving. This could be a real-life business scenario to unpack, a presentation, a test or a collaboration exercise. (Please note, depending on the role, the order of rounds 2 & 3 are interchangeable)

Round 4 - Values interview:

  • You'll be able to meet with the Department Head for a short, informal conversation to understand your potential impact, the growth area we can support, and how aligned you are with our values and culture.

If there are any adjustments we can make that would make you more comfortable at any point in the interview process, please don't hesitate to let us know.
