OVERVIEW:

We are looking to hire a skilled senior-level SQL Server Database Administratorto join an established team, that supports one of our major oil and gas customers. The successful candidate will be expected to join the team onsite at the downtown Houston office. This is not a remote or hybrid role.

The candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience in SQL Server administration in Microsoft Azure and on-premises environments and understand IT and software development life cycle processes. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of database administration in a single and clustering environment including but not limited to planning, installation, configuration, security configuration, backup and restore, optimization, and monitoring of SQL Server databases.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and implement fault-tolerant SQL Server solutions using highly availability patterns for scalability and stability in on-premises and Microsoft Azure
  • Design and deploy Microsoft SQL PaaS solutions in Microsoft Azure
  • Monitor and maintain database storage, and database health, performance, sustainability and security
  • Monitor and maintain SQL server Mirroring, Log shipping, backups, ETL SSIS jobs, and encryption
  • Provide SQL Server administration in MS SQL Server 2016, 2017 and/or 2019
  • Plan and implement database backup strategies and perform recovery in case of disaster
  • Analyze SQL query plans, suggest and implement solutions to support developers in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Install, configure and upgrade database management systems and software including clustering environment

Requirements

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • BS degree in Computer Science or Information Technology; an advanced degree is preferred
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the management and administration of enterprise level SQL databases in SQL Server 2016 or 2017 
  • Experience designing fault-tolerant MS SQL solutions
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with the planning and implementation of MS SQL database disaster recovery for enterprise level application
  • Knowledge of physical database design, database changes, enforcement of data integrity, and security management
  • Knowledge of query languages, T-SQL
  • Ability to troubleshoot and fix issues, and work well across functional teams
  • Ability to install, configure and patch database management systems and software  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, teamwork and problem solving
  • Strong attention to detail, and good oral and written communication skills

BENEFICIAL BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of PowerShell DSC is preferred
  • Knowledge of Power BI is preferred
  • Experience on SQL Server 2019 Administration is preferred
