LastPass is looking for a Cloud Architect:

Join us and be part of the LastPass Platform Architect team, which empowers our platform engineers to do their best work. The projects we undertake have a scale and impact that is hard to find anywhere else. You will be responsible for building and collaborating with peers and teams across the globe. You will work on a product that is loved by millions, securing the online lives of our users.

If you are passionate about complex problem solving and motivated by scale, then this is the role for you!

Who will you work with?

We are a small team within the Platform Engineering Organization. You will work alongside technical leaders from various teams and other architects to ensure that all our cloud solutions are built on solid foundations, utilizing the right and proven technologies, sound design principles, and appropriate non-functional requirements such as performance, availability, maintainability, reliability, and security. You will participate in discussions to provide business justification for engineering needs to various stakeholders.

The architect role is a service-oriented position, and we succeed by helping others and teams achieve their goals in their projects.

What are some of the exciting challenges you will be working on?

  • As LastPass's Cloud Architect, you will be responsible for designing scalable, secure, high-performing, and cost-effective cloud solutions.
  • Design, document, establish, and maintain the architectural vision and future goals for application containerization and our cloud presence.
  • Document and build consensus around cloud architecture principles, fostering support by collaborating with stakeholders and colleagues through constructive dialogue and healthy debate.
  • Help coordinate cloud infrastructure developments by reviewing deliverables early, producing recommendations, and providing guidelines and best practices.
  • Ensure architectural direction and governance are aligned with business goals, product strategy, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in solution work for new initiatives to outline high-level solutions.
  • Identify activities needed to address technical debt, as well as performance, scalability, availability, reliability, risk, and security.
  • Conceptualize and experiment with alternative architectural approaches.
  • Be an industry leader outside of LastPass by contributing to open-source projects and presenting at industry conferences.
  • Maintain a consultant mindset and mentoring skills to help others build their skills and knowledge, nurturing the next generation of technical leaders within LastPass.

What does it take to work at LastPass?

  • Lead complex initiatives to modernize the LastPass infrastructure within our evolving organization.
  • Design innovative solutions that balance business continuity with enhancing user experience.
  • Proficiency in cloud technologies, specifically AWS, with a proven track record in designing and establishing enterprise-scale cloud landing zones.
  • Solid understanding of identity and access management, networking, and security in the cloud.
  • Experience in designing and delivering cloud-native systems on AWS.
  • Professional-level or associate-level certifications, along with any specialty certification for AWS.
  • Skilled in advanced containerization technologies, container orchestration with Kubernetes, and understanding a container’s journey into production, including all aspects of CI/CD.
  • Hands-on knowledge of infrastructure-as-code solutions, such as CloudFormation, CDK, and Terraform.
  • Excellent communication skills (spoken, written, and presentation) to express ideas to both technical and business users, resolving conflicts between various parties.
  • A strong team player who offers help and regularly shares knowledge with colleagues.
  • Technical leadership and architectural experience in cloud infrastructure development and containerization efforts.
  • Solid understanding of scalability, high availability, and concurrency patterns in distributed systems.
  • Flexibility and creativity in solution design, including leveraging emerging technologies.
  • Ability to communicate and apply common architectural design patterns across a wide range of technical problems.
  • Familiarity and hands-on experience with object-oriented programming languages, along with a solid understanding of software development practices.

It's great, but not required:

  • Versatility in major cloud platforms beyond AWS, such as GCP and Azure.
  • Proven track record of establishing and managing an observability ecosystem for cloud-based systems.
  • Experience in developing cloud governance processes and/or involvement in establishing solid FinOps foundations.
