Job description

OVERVIEW

Since 1972, Covenant House has served and advocated for youth and young families experiencing homelessness, human trafficking, and exploitation. Our overarching goal is to end homelessness among youth and young families by helping them achieve housing stability, heal from trauma, tap into their innate resilience, and hone their interests and skills to forge new pathways to independence. This work is carried out across Covenant House sites in 34 cities in the US, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras.


PRIMARY FUNCTION OF POSITION

The Manager, Institutional Funding will help maintain and grow Covenant House International’s private and corporate foundation sources of support for youth and young families facing homelessness. Responsibilities include identification and research of new corporate and private foundation prospects; writing proposals and reports, ensuring adherence to guidelines and deadlines; and assistance with stewardship of foundation donors. The Manager will work closely with the Key Partnerships team to strategize and maximize funding opportunities.

The Manager, Institutional Funding reports to the VP, Institutional Funding.


SALARY RANGE: ($62,400 - $78,000)

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining a team member's base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify and research new private and corporate foundation prospects—including through daily monitoring of Inside Philanthropy, Philanthropy News Digest, etc.—and coordinate strategy once viable prospects are identified.
  • Maintain a portfolio of foundations, identifying and stewarding relationships with foundation representatives to deepen and grow funding for CHI and affiliates.
  • Identify opportunities for and assist team with stewardship, including outreach to and communications with institutional donors at key moments.
  • Use Every Action, Asana, and other tools to track grants and reporting deadlines and create reports to track the teams’ progress toward goals.
  • Work and strategize with the Key Partnerships team and others in the organizations to help meet and exceed annual fundraising goals for institutional giving.

Other responsibilities, as needed, may include:

  • Assist in the creation of reports and other materials.
  • Represent Covenant House in meetings, site visits, phone conversations, and events, as needed.
  • Participate in internal committees as requested.
  • General systems and administrative tasks as needed.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Three years’ experience in grant writing and working with private and/or corporate foundations or other relevant experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to translate passion into compelling cases for support.
  • Outstanding organizational skills.
  • Experience using a relationship management system/donor database and expertise with Microsoft Office.
  • Team player, with ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Flexible schedule for occasional weekend or evening events or deadlines.
  • Dedicated to the mission of Covenant House.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations preferred.
