Team Overview

Our Legal Division is expanding to enhance solutions for millions of clients and their families. We are looking for experienced attorneys to partner with business groups across the firm to provide legal and strategic support and ensure the firm is meeting its legal and regulatory obligations while successfully executing key firm initiatives.

What You'll Do

As an Associate General Counsel II, you will work with business stakeholders in the retirement space to develop solutions that serve our clients' best interests and deliver an exceptional experience for our branch teams, clients, and the firm. The work is dynamic and requires the ability to look beyond the specific legal questions to understand the goals of the business and aid in getting to the best solution

Under General Supervision, The Associate Will Be Responsible For

  • Providing legal, strategic, and tactical support for key firm initiatives in the retirement space - including Individual Retirement Accounts and Employer Retirement Plans.
  • Providing the firm with specialized expertise in legal and regulatory matters related to all facets of the firm's retirement business, including ERISA and non-ERISA employer retirement plans as well as retail products such as IRA, Roth IRA, SEP, and SIMPLE accounts.
  • Partnering with the firm's Operations, Client Service, Products, Solutions, and Compliance divisions to assist in the development of retirement savings policy initiatives and products.
  • Empowering business leaders to make informed decisions by providing legal and strategic guidance.
  • Interpreting retirement laws, rules and regulations affecting the operation of the organization, including, but not limited to, ERISA, the IRS Code, and various state retirement laws.
  • Effectively communicating and sharing information across the organization.
  • Managing a workload that is large, diverse, and complex.

The salary range for this role is based on national data and actual pay is based on skills, experience, education, and other relevant factors for a potential new associate:

Hiring Minimum: $136571

Hiring Maximum: $232541

Skills/Requirements

What Experience You'll Need:

  • J.D. and license to practice law in Missouri or an equivalent state.
  • 5+ years of progressive responsibility as an attorney in private practice, in the public sector or in an in-house counsel capacity.

What Could Set You Apart

  • Regulatory and industry experience is in the areas of ERISA and/or Individual Retirement Account laws and regulations.
  • Litigation or regulatory enforcement experience.
  • Experience with high-risk, complex business projects.
  • Candidates that live within in a commutable distance from our Tempe, AZ and St. Louis, MO home office locations are expected to work in the office three days per week, with preference for Tuesday through Thursday**
