Job description

Our client is looking for an experienced Programme Manager to lead and deliver conservation programme objectives. The Programme Manager will oversee the development and implementation of strategic projects, managing cross-functional teams and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. The role requires a proactive leader with extensive project management experience, particularly in conservation or natural resource management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive project plans, allocate resources, and manage budgets according to strategic priorities.
  • Contribute to organizational strategic planning and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Lead and manage cross-functional teams, fostering innovation and professional development within the team.
  • Compile and manage annual operations plans, ensuring adherence to timelines and risk minimization.
  • Oversee financial management, approve transactions, and ensure compliance with donor requirements.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to track and assess project progress and impact.
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project continuity.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with partners, stakeholders, traditional leaders, and donors.
  • Oversee the recruitment, management, and performance of programme staff.
  • Provide support to the Conservation Director on project and programme-related matters.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and management software is preferred.
  • Strong interest in conservation and natural resource management.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale conservation programmes or institutions.
  • Strong understanding of conservation priorities and programmes, particularly in Zambia or Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of additional languages, such as German, is an advantage.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Studies, Conservation, or a related field. An additional qualification in Business Management or similar is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management role focused on Protected Area Management or similar.
