Red Hat’s Open Source Program Office is looking for a highly motivated, self-directed, and hands-on individual to lead community development for key security related open source projects. We are looking for a person who has community-building experience, demonstrated contributions to open source projects, and the ability to align business and customer needs with open source community efforts. Experience in developing open source business strategies and using metrics to evaluate success is important.
You’ll engage with both the users of and the developers of open source projects, advocating for the needs of the community while serving as a public face for the projects. You’ll work with members of the Open Source Program Office, engineering, security teams, and other stakeholders across Red Hat as well as in multiple open source software communities.
This position is available in Ireland.
This position requires some international travel.
What You’ll Do
- Identify upstream communities germane to the success of the Red Hat Security strategy to ensure they have appropriate vitality and level of participation
- Expand the visibility of Red Hat as an industry leader in open source by demonstrating and promoting Red Hat’s contributions to security related open source projects and communities that align with our overall strategy
- Track and surface risk and opportunity in the evolving Zero Trust, AI, and open source software related supply chain security market
- Work with multiple stakeholder teams to map and rationalize Red Hat’s community commitments in key, security-related open source projects aligned to Red Hat’s strategy
- Champion Red Hat’s engagement in these communities in an audience appropriate manner to further our technology vision
- Work with our engineering, legal, security, communications, product, and recruiting teams to turn security related contributions into powerful stories that demonstrate the strength of open source
- Cultivate our open source presence and reputation in security related open source organizations, standards bodies, and more
- Partner with various teams – including corporate communications, events, consulting, developer, product, and partner marketing – to ensure successful and targeted execution of various community outreach activities including events, social media, web content, and more
What You’ll Bring
- Familiarity of the security software space and the ability to deepen understanding of the landscape quickly
- Desire to use and further develop your verbal, presentation, and written communication skills
- Good organizational skills and the ability to effectively work with your manager and other internal stakeholders to prioritize work associated with both short- and long-term goals
- Experience with software development, open source developer communities and understanding of development processes
- Familiarity with developer tools, continuous integration, containers, Kubernetes, security, and cloud native technologies in general
- Experience motivating volunteers and staff is a definite plus
- Familiarity with social media
