Job description

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in Amsterdam to lead the company’s technology strategy and operations. In the short term, the CTO will focus on ensuring the security of our systems, consolidating current technology infrastructure, and removing dependencies on single team members to create a more resilient and scalable tech team. In the long term, the CTO will be responsible for defining and executing the technology strategy, scaling operations, and leading the innovation that drives our business growth.

Responsibilities
Short-term focus

Security:

  • Ensure the security of all company data, systems, and networks.
  • Implement industry best practices for data protection, encryption, and security protocols.
  • Lead security audits, risk assessments, and remove single points of failure.

System consolidation:

  • Assess and streamline current systems and tools to improve efficiency and reduce redundancy.
  • Optimize the tech stack to better align with business goals and scalability needs.
  • Lead the transition to more consolidated, integrated, and scalable technology platforms.

Team knowledge & redundancy management:

  • Eliminate dependencies on single team members by implementing proper documentation, cross-training, and knowledge-sharing processes.
  • Foster collaboration across teams to ensure knowledge transfer and resilience.
  • Create a sustainable technology team structure with clear ownership and accountability.
  • Create measurable KPIs for the tech team to align with the company's technology strategy, innovation objectives, and operational efficiency.
Long-term focus

Technology strategy:

  • Develop and implement the company’s long-term technology strategy to align with business objectives and future growth.
  • Stay up-to-date with security and compliance such as GDPR/ISO, and with emerging technologies (Such as AI) and recommend their adoption where they could enhance company offerings or efficiency.
  • Lead innovation and technology initiatives that drive competitive advantage.

Scaling technology operations:

  • Lead the scaling of the technology function, including infrastructure, software development, and tech operations to support rapid company growth.
  • Establish processes and best practices for software development, quality assurance, and deployment.
  • Drive automation, performance optimization, and efficiency improvements across technology operations.

Team leadership & development:

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing technology team, cultivating a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
  • Oversee hiring, resource allocation, and career development for the tech team.
  • Foster an inclusive, high-performance work environment.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Proven leadership: Demonstrated experience in a CTO or senior technical leadership role, managing both short-term operational priorities and long-term strategic initiatives.
  • Technical expertise: Strong background in system architecture, security best practices, cloud infrastructure, and software development.
  • Security knowledge: Experience with security protocols, compliance frameworks (e.g. GDPR, ISO), and managing security operations.
  • Tech strategy: Experience in scaling technology teams and operations, and setting a long-term tech vision for a growing company.
  • Problem solver: Ability to assess and mitigate risks while driving technological innovation and efficiency.
  • Team leadership: Proven success in building and leading technical teams, promoting knowledge sharing, and eliminating single points of failure.
Preferred experience
  • Tech stack expertise: AWS, Kubernetes, Google Cloud, EKS (Elastic Search), PHP Laravel, React/JS, Typescript, Shell, WordPress & HTML/CSS
  • Industry knowledge: Experience in e-commerce / Affiliate marketing & Google Ads is a plus.
  • Experience working in high-growth environments and scaling technology teams.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with other departments.
