Role: Confident DevOps engineer that can support VR client releases, web deployments, and work towards a better DevOps experience

The Who, What, Where, When & Why

This is an amazing opportunity to be a DevOps Engineer at Oxford Medical Simulation. You will be responsible for helping to ensure reliable releases of our VR clients, which includes clinical scenarios used by learners internationally. Additionally, you’ll be looking after pipelines that enable smooth and reliable deployments to two web applications, including a learning management system and a scenario authoring platform.

You might be:

  • Working with our developers to improve and expand our infrastructure, automation and deployment processes

  • Working with our QA team to ensure new build of our simulation software

  • Building and deploying new infrastructure and services.

What you will be doing:
  • Improving and scaling our hosting infrastructure

  • Optimising processes and pipelines

  • Keeping ahead of problems with active monitoring and alerting

  • Ensuring our infrastructure is secure and resilient to service outages

  • Ensuring our service level agreements are met

  • Improving and maintaining DevOps tooling and automation

  • Monitoring spending on cloud and other services and suggesting and implementing efficiencies

  • Building and contributing to a Community of Practice


Essential
  • Minimum 5 years DevOps experience

  • Expert Kubernetes experience. You will have played a major role in designing, implementing and maintaining Kubernetes clusters.

  • Expert understanding of networking including VPNs, Firewalls, Web Application Firewalls, DNS

  • Good knowledge of Infrastructure as code (we use Terraform)

  • Experience of Helm Charts

  • Experience with Argo CD

  • Version control expertise (we use GitHub)

  • CI/CD expertise (we use TeamCity, GitHub Actions, Argo CD)

  • AWS including IAM, ECS, Route 53, S3

  • Experience with AWS and GCP

  • Strong time management and prioritisation skills

  • Strong communication, both written and verbal

  • Adaptable to rapidly changing situations and dynamic environments

  • Ability to communicate with a range of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures



Bonus points for any of the following:
  • Knowledge of web application development

  • Experience with Loki, Prometheus and Grafana

  • Experience with Cloudflare

  • Experience or knowledge of healthcare or education

  • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Jira, Confluence, and Slack

  • Awareness of how games or other applications are built
