  • Monitor the performance of the insurance portfolio, taking proactive corrective action to maintain a balanced spread of risk and ensure profitability.
  • Participate in reinsurance marketing efforts, partnering with brokers and reinsurers to develop optimal reinsurance structures that support the company’s strategy.
  • Lead the development and launch of new commercial insurance programs, working with business unit leader, product, marketing, and actuarial teams to bring solutions to market.
  • Partner with the technology team to manage the implementation of underwriting and risk assessment tools in an agile environment, ensuring seamless integration and adoption by the underwriting team.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on policy language, rating, and underwriting guidelines, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Own reinsurance bordereau review and approval.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including claims, compliance, and actuarial departments, to ensure consistency and alignment in underwriting practices and risk management.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market dynamics, providing strategic recommendations to senior leadership on business growth and risk management opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10-15 years of commercial underwriting experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of commercial insurance products, underwriting guidelines, policy language, and rating systems.
  • Proven track record in building and managing successful underwriting teams, with a focus on driving profitable growth.
  • Experience in reinsurance, including familiarity with reinsurance treaties, facultative placements, and negotiation with reinsurers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex portfolios, monitor risk exposures, and implement corrective actions to optimize performance.
