Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Research Administrator, Grants and Contracts [R0144861], REMOTE.

ROLE of the POSITION

The Research Administrator is responsible for the review and set up of grants and contracts for research, service projects, and other creative activities. This position acts as the liaison between the faculty and the sponsors. The Research Administrator manages a high-volume, complex portfolio and performs the following duties:

  • Reviews awards and non-competitive proposals for accuracy and compliance.

  • Obtains fully executed award documents and prepares internal documentation for award entry into Workday.

  • Enters new awards, amendments, corrections and other data entries into Workday.

  • Administers sponsored program awards for programmatic compliance.

  • Reviews budgets and any changes in scope of work or personnel during life cycle of awards.

  • Acts as the liaison between the faculty and the sponsors and serves as the UNLV Point of Contact.

  • Assists faculty with award-related questions.

  • Aids with developing and providing relevant training and presentations to faculty and staff.

  • Manages the transfer process of awards into and out of the university.

  • Prepares Subaward agreements.

Primary Job Duties

  • Reviews terms and conditions for all agreements other than contracts on behalf of the University. Responsible for getting agreement fully executed by both parties.

  • Formal acceptance of grants; ensures grant terms are compliant to institution. Compares proposal with agreement and makes sure agreements are accurate with appropriate scope, budget, and terms and conditions. Ensures any projects with compliance components have all of the proper documentation and that all internal and external procedures and policies have been followed.

  • Enters awards and amendments into Workday for review; responsible for the data entry of all corrections into Workday – editing of data, additional terms and conditions, uploading documents, adding additional award lines.

  • Preparation of subcontracts to other institutions and other entities so that project work can be done and monitored efficiently. Must flow down provisions from prime award and conform to NSHE policy. Incorrect subcontracts can cause audit, invoicing and legal complications.

  • Ensure the research and other sponsored programs community receives an appropriate level of grants management training.

KNOWLEDGE

Required

  • Knowledge of the functional areas of sponsored programs administration (pre-award through closeout).

  • Good general sense of the nature of research in all academic disciplines.

  • Possess extensive experience working in NIH, NSF, DOE, NASA platforms.

  • Possess extensive knowledge of major funding sources and their policies and procedures.

  • Possess advanced knowledge of federal procurement regulations, including the CFR & FAR, agency CFR/FAR implementations, and the Uniform Guidance and audit regulations that pertain to institutions of higher education.

    Preferred

  • Workday experience.

SKILLS

Required

  • Experience with Microsoft Office.

  • Intermediate Level in Excel.

  • Professional Writing Skills.

  • Experience with various sponsor portals.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with and make decisions concerning funding and contractual matters.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret policies and act independently in a highly complex regulatory/legal/fiscal environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 1-3 years of experience in Research Administration in review of contracts, and administering a portfolio of awards. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

University setting with research administration. College, Department grant administrator is a plus. Workday experience. Cayuse experience. Certified Research Administrator (CRA).

SALARY RANGE

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Salary range $68,000 - $77,000, dependent on experience.
