Job description

Job Overview

We are looking for a skilled Reverse Mortgage Underwriter to become an integral member of our team. In this remote position, you will be responsible for underwriting residential loans, ensuring adherence to our internal guidelines, secondary market investor expectations, and all relevant regulations. Your role will involve meticulous review of loan documentation while working closely with loan originators, branch managers, and processors to secure necessary documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess loan applications and accompanying documents for accuracy and completeness in line with HECM guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain prompt turnaround times for initial decisions and condition reviews as per departmental standards.
  • Collaborate with Quality Control, Compliance, and Funding teams to tackle resolution of issues, risk assessments, and compliance matters.
  • Acquire a robust understanding of HECM product guidelines and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Modify loans to new terms when necessary, identifying any additional conditions to ensure prudent credit evaluations.
  • Analyze borrower profiles, including income documentation, tax returns, credit reports, preliminary reports, judgments, bankruptcy documents, and appraisals, ensuring comprehensive documentation is collected for final loan decisions.
  • Exhibit proficiency in manual underwriting protocols and procedures.
  • Stay updated on secondary market trends and industry practices that influence underwriting integrity and origination workflows.
  • Cultivate positive working relationships with loan originators, management, and processing teams.
  • Effectively utilize MS Office applications.

Required Skills

  • Over three years of experience in residential loan underwriting.
  • DE certification and recent FHA underwriting experience are highly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of FHA/HECM policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with various fraud detection tools.
  • Proven adaptability in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Outstanding relationship management skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Previous mortgage processing experience is preferred.
  • Experience in handling repurchase inquiries and rebuttal evaluations.
  • Strong analytic, reporting, interpretation, and critical thinking capabilities.

Qualifications

  • A relevant degree in finance, business, or a related discipline is preferred but not mandatory.
  • DE certification is preferred.
