Job Overview

We are in search of a highly skilled Senior Biologist / Project Manager to become an integral part of our expanding Natural Resources team in California. This pivotal role involves leading project execution, delegating responsibilities, and collaborating effectively with both peers and junior team members to drive project success.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Work

  • Draft comprehensive technical studies and environmental documentation, including Biological Resource Assessments, biological CEQA/NEPA evaluations, Jurisdictional Delineations, and permit application materials.
  • Determine optimal permitting pathways for intricate projects and prepare the required technical studies for application submissions.
  • Execute stream and wetland delineations along with fieldwork vital for biological analyses.
  • Occasional travel, including overnight stays, may be necessary.

Project Management

  • Oversee complex biological permitting initiatives, such as those associated with the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and Coastal Act.
  • Independently manage and deliver medium to large-scale projects, ensuring timely and effective outcomes.
  • Coordinate all aspects of project scopes, timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Act as the primary liaison for clients and regulatory bodies, facilitating open communication and efficient project management.
  • Provide technical guidance to team members and subcontractors.
  • Lead quality assurance and control (QA/QC) assessments of reports, budgets, and schedules.

Business Development

  • Participate in client outreach to nurture robust relationships and identify new business ventures.
  • Craft proposals and develop cost and timeline estimates for prospective projects.
  • Engage in client interviews and deliver presentations to secure project contracts.

Required Skills

This position is well suited for candidates who possess:

  • A minimum of 6 years of progressive and successful experience in environmental consulting, covering technical work, project management, and business development.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology (or a related field) from an accredited institution, or a PhD with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
  • A solid record of supervising staff, providing innovative solutions, and establishing positive relationships with colleagues, clients, regulatory agencies, and subcontractors.
  • Expertise in:
    • Biological resource assessments (CEQA/NEPA)
    • Botanical and wildlife species surveys
    • Wetland delineations and jurisdictional determinations
    • CRAM assessments
    • Regulatory permitting and compliance oversight
    • Restoration planning, habitat management, and mitigation monitoring
  • Experience with utility, energy, water, or transportation projects is an advantage.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing medium to large projects autonomously.
  • A familiarity with utility, energy, water, or transportation projects is a plus.

Compensation And Benefits

The salary range for this full-time position is \(84,000 - \)138,000, complemented by benefits and performance-based bonus opportunities. Compensation will be determined based on the candidate's skills, experience, and relevant knowledge, ensuring both fairness and internal equity.
