Position Summary

As an actuary in Guardian’s Student Program, you will develop a thorough understanding of our products and how your job responsibilities contribute towards achieving the goals of Guardian. You will assist in performing financial and non-financial analysis and make recommendations consistent with Guardian’s goals regarding growth and profitability. As part of the Student Program, expect to rotate departments every 18 to 24 months, providing the opportunity for a breadth of experience.

Initial position will be within the Fixed Annuity Valuation area. Main job responsibilities will include:

  • Monthly/quarterly/annual valuation and reporting
  • Assistance with annuity Plan projections
  • Collaborate with teammates to build VM22 valuation models
  • Inforce management projects

You are:

A self-starter who is fueled by collaboration, able to transform conceptual thinking into executable insights, who thrives in diving into business problems and using data to make decisions.

You have:

  • Focus on attaining the Actuarial Associate designation in the Society of Actuaries and intends to pursue the Actuarial Fellow designation.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Some experience modeling in AXIS is a plus.
  • Understanding of the interaction between assets and liabilities in actuarial models is a plus.
  • VBA and other programming knowledge a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Strong analytical and communication skills

You will:

  • Identify areas of improvement regarding procedural and/or technical aspects of projects
  • Complete assignments on time and according to specifications provided by your supervisor
  • Strive towards completion of such assignments as independently as possible, recognizing situations where managerial guidance is needed
  • Actively seek and take on additional challenges to grow and develop professionally
  • Utilize internal and external data sources to report financials and better understand industry trends, clients, competitors, and the regulatory environment

Reporting Relationships:

This position reports to Actuarial Valuation Professional, Fixed Annuity Valuation, who in turn reports to the Senior Actuary, Head of Fixed Annuity Valuation. 

Location and Work Arrangement:

  • Preferred locations include one of Guardian's offices in Bethlehem, PA; New York, NY; Holmdel, NJ; Boston, MA; or Alpharetta, GA.
  • Work arrangement will be hybrid (combination of in-office presence and work from home).

No travel is required for this role.

Salary Range
$78,230.00 - $117,342.50

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
