About the role

We’re looking for a Financial Analyst/Underwriter to join our growing Contract Surety team!  Your role will be to underwrite contract surety accounts by reviewing and interpreting financial statements to conduct financial and credit risk analysis to make appropriate recommendations and decisions, in support of the Contract Surety team.

This is a hybrid role that is based out of our office in Calgary, Alberta.

 

About the role:

Review and interpret financial statements and risks associated with bonded construction projects. The successful candidate will demonstrate financial acumen, critical thinking, and strong organizational skills.  They will work towards building and maintaining positive relationships with various clients: insurance brokers, lawyers, chartered accountants, and construction companies.

 

What you’ll do here:

  • Manage a diverse portfolio of contract surety accounts

  • Analyze and secure underwriting data, perform financial analysis and apply critical thinking on underwriting decisions and client relationship issues

  • Assess risk and appropriately recommend approval of new and renewing contract surety facilities

  • Prioritize workflow to maximize productivity and meet deadlines

  • Assist in the preparation and submission of special acceptances to reinsurers

  • Maintain quality control and profitable growth

  • Maintain a strong knowledge of construction industry trends, market conditions, and current challenges and opportunities

  • Work towards developing broker relationships and marketing strategies to further new business development opportunities

 

What you bring to the table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or finance or any combination of training and experience deemed relevant for the role

  • 2-3 years of surety or related business experience is considered an asset

  • Construction experience/knowledge is considered an asset

  • Solid understanding of financial statements

  • Strong analytical and research skills

  • A history of providing excellent customer service and sound judgment

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-volume, fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with co-workers in a team setting

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite of products

  • Bilingualism in French and English, written and spoken, is an asset
