Initiates’ collection activity on outstanding self-pay balances. Relevant categories include high dollar self-pay balances for both Hospital and Physician, payment plans, bankruptcy, Victim of Violent crime, estates, insurance information, financial counseling, settlements, and prompt pay discounts.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Initiates telephone calls to patients/guarantors regarding resolution of their self-pay balances.
  • Initiates telephone calls to insurance companies regarding resolution of self-pay balances.
  • Communicates with hospital clinics/doctor offices regarding resolution of self-pay balances.
  • Works assigned work queues within established protocols.
  • Responds to patient/responsible party inquiries/requests received via telephone, mail and in person by accessing the billing system.

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

  • High School diploma required.

Experience/Skills:

Required:

  • Three years of relevant work experience, preferably in telephone collections.
  • Thorough knowledge of third-party insurance and medical terminology.
  • Computer skills. Ability to work independently within established functional guidelines and withstand pressure that may arise when dealing with the public, physicians/clinic and staff.
