Summary

The Bioinformatics Research Laboratory (BRL) at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a self-motivated and broadly capable Senior IT Project Management Associate to join our team and support our groundbreaking genomics software development projects. This software project management position will ensure delivery of projects, identify software priorities, and coordinate with BRL engineering leads to assign implementation resources to meet the needs of the global scientific and clinical communities. In this high profile position, the candidate will also serve as the point of contact for engagement with consortium collaborators, NIH program officers, and create reports to facilitate ongoing NIH assessment and oversight. This role will also require presenting BRL software products and solutions to the community through educational events, as well as soliciting and collating user feedback to guide product improvement and feature additions.

 

Ideal candidates will have software project management experience in genomics, genetics, molecular biology, or similar fields and be able to converse intelligently with experts in those fields; however terminal degree level of training is not required.

 

Hybrid work arrangements within the Greater Houston, TX area are common within the lab. A fully remote position will only be available to the most qualified candidates.

Job Duties
  • Employs strong genomics, genetics, bioinformatics, and related domain knowledge to gather software requirements and form detailed specifications, in cooperation with consortium stakeholders.
  • Assists engineering leads in software prioritization and planning, change control management, as well as effort assignment within the software team, and maintains project documentation.
  • Participates in consortium software planning and data modeling within groups composed of PIs and other project managers.
  • Communicates progress, plans, obstacles, and new functionality. Submits requested reports to consortium oversight panels and NIH program officers.
  • Employs advocacy, outreach, and management skills to build new and to maintain existing collaborations.
  • Represents BCM software products and solutions within the consortium and to the wider community via workshops, conferences, abstracts, and presentations.
  • Provides scientific and conceptual context to the software team's engineers.
  • Tracks, coordinates, manages, and documents software projects, workflows, and systems underway by software team engineers.
  • Facilitates software prioritization and engineering processes using knowledge of agile software development approaches.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
     
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.  Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement. 
  • Four years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree
  • Successful candidates will have more than 4 years of experience with:
    • Managing software development projects within a consortium.
    • Engaging with end-users and developing software product scope of work.
    • Working in support of a development team focused on genomics, genetics, and/or bioinformatics.
    • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills as demonstrated through successful management of software product implementations.
