Job description

Job Overview

We invite you to join a reputable and rapidly expanding national lender as a Mortgage Loan Underwriter. In this pivotal role, you will assess borrower financial and credit data along with property evaluations to inform lending decisions. This position entails collaborative efforts with the production team to ensure the seamless closure of loans.

Key Responsibilities

Underwrite and make informed decisions on agency conforming, jumbo, FHA, and VA residential mortgage loans.
Verify and scrutinize financial information and documentation to confirm the completeness of loan files.
Review appraisal reports to identify and rectify any discrepancies.
Conduct comprehensive analyses of applicants’ income, expense data, asset documentation, credit reports, and property valuations to ensure borrower qualifications are met.
Calculate qualifying ratios and evaluate creditworthiness, delivering insightful risk assessments.

Required Skills

Demonstrated ability to underwrite VA, FHA, Conventional, and Jumbo loans.
Proficient in conducting essential loan calculations (DTI, LTV, etc.).
Exceptional report preparation skills.
Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Capacity to manage multiple files concurrently while maintaining a collaborative mindset and a commitment to continuous growth.

Qualifications

Minimum of 4 years of underwriting experience is required.
Familiarity with FNMA, FHLMC, and Non-Conforming mortgages is advantageous.
Experience with Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Prospector/Loan Product Advisor (LP/LPA) is preferred.
Comprehensive knowledge of the mortgage lending process is essential.
