Job Overview

As a Senior Environmental Health & Safety Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our teams engaged in construction projects. Your primary mission will be to mitigate risks and enhance safety protocols, aligning them seamlessly with our overarching construction objectives. You will be responsible for the formulation and enforcement of robust health and safety policies that comply with all relevant regulations, instilling a culture of safety that resonates from fleet management to job site operations. Your expertise will be essential in driving our business success, fostering client satisfaction, and nurturing a commitment to continuous improvement, ensuring every team member returns home safely each day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for ongoing and prospective projects, collaborating with project teams to address identified risks.
  • Execute regular safety inspections, audits, and evaluations, with a focus on high-risk activities.
  • Design and implement clear and concise safety policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to legal standards.
  • Facilitate training sessions for employees on safety protocols, job-specific risks, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Oversee health and safety initiatives, including permit renewals, training, and emergency response programs.
  • Create and manage site-specific safety plans, providing essential input on safety considerations for projects.
  • Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance and managing inspections and audits.
  • Cultivate a positive safety culture, promoting performance metrics and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare detailed reports based on audits and inspections, offering actionable insights for enhancement.
  • Support Superintendents and Project Managers in the implementation of safety policies.
  • Develop and maintain orientation programs for new employees, ensuring content is up-to-date.

Required Skills

  • Extensive understanding of construction safety regulations, including CAL/OSHA.
  • Proven ability to design and execute health and safety enhancements.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in training and mentoring contexts.
  • Expertise in simplifying complex safety policies for diverse audiences.
  • Aptitude for identifying safety hazards and proposing effective corrective measures.
  • Proficient in interpreting technical documentation and crafting clear safety policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Safety Engineering, or Occupational Health with a minimum of 15 years of experience in construction safety, or a combination of relevant certifications and at least 10 years in commercial building construction.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience with construction safety regulations and a demonstrated history of implementing health and safety improvements.
  • Proven experience in training employees across various environments.
