Job Overview

We are actively seeking a highly skilled Senior Biologist / Project Manager to enhance our dynamic Natural Resources team in California. In this pivotal role, you will spearhead project execution, assign tasks effectively, and work collaboratively with both experienced colleagues and junior staff to ensure successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Work

  • Generate comprehensive technical studies and environmental documents, including Biological Resource Assessments, biological CEQA/NEPA analyses, Jurisdictional Delineations, and permit application packages.
  • Determine optimal permitting pathways for intricate projects and produce essential technical studies and materials for application submissions.
  • Undertake fieldwork, including stream/wetland delineations crucial for biological documentation.
  • Occasional travel with overnight stays may be required.

Project Management

  • Oversee complex biological permitting projects, including those related to the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and Coastal Act.
  • Independently manage and deliver medium to large-scale projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and efficiency.
  • Coordinate project scopes, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Serve as the chief liaison for clients and regulatory agencies, ensuring effective communication and seamless project management.
  • Provide technical leadership to both staff and subcontractors.
  • Conduct quality assurance and control (QA/QC) reviews of technical reports, budgets, and schedules.

Business Development

  • Initiate client outreach to cultivate robust relationships and secure new business opportunities.
  • Prepare proposals and develop cost and schedule estimates for prospective projects.
  • Engage in client interviews and deliver presentations to secure project work.

Required Skills

  • A minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in environmental consulting, encompassing technical work, project management, and business development.
  • Proven capability to supervise staff and foster positive relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and subconsultants.
  • Expertise in the following areas:
    • Biological resource assessments (CEQA/NEPA)
    • Botanical and wildlife species surveys
    • Wetland delineations and jurisdictional determinations
    • CRAM assessments
    • Regulatory permitting and compliance oversight
    • Restoration planning, habitat management, and mitigation monitoring
  • Experience with utility, energy, water, or transportation projects is advantageous.
Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology (or equivalent) from an accredited institution, or a PhD with 4+ years of relevant experience.

Compensation And Benefits

The base salary range for this full-time position is \(84,000 - \)138,000, complemented by benefits and bonus opportunities. Salary offers will reflect a candidate's skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, ensuring fairness and internal equity.
