Industrial Member Non-Executive Director (Member of Council)

The Welding institute is seeking board members in the category of Industrial Members. Please could the below be circulated within your business or directed to individuals within your company who may have appropriate skills or expertise aligned with those sought. Applicants who are employees of an Industrial Member company are eligible.

The TWI Group is a cutting edge world-wide membership-based independent research organisation, specialising in materials, joining and structural integrity technologies. Our mission is to help industry solve problems through independent advice and developing the next generation of experts to address future industry challenges. Group operational turnover was £63m in 2021 with profits of £129m in 2022 (which mostly came from a once-off property deal).  As a non-profit distributing entity, all surplus generated by the group goes back into serving our purpose. We achieve this by reinvesting into research, staff, equipment and buildings to better serve our Members.

The TWI governing body, known as Council (comprising of Non-Executive Directors), assists with the oversight and governance of the business through working in collaboration with the Chief Executive and an Executive Board.

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint new Industrial Member Non–Executive Directors to join as Members of Council to participate in boards and committees according to their skills and we are keen to attract candidates with the following skills, qualifications and/or knowledge to support and strengthen effective decision-making of Council:

·         Risk management and compliance expertise*

·         Qualified accountant with recent financial experience and competence in accounting and/or auditing*

·         Property investment and management skills

·         Environmental, social and governance (ESG) expertise

·         Security expertise including cybersecurity

·         Corporate governance knowledge and experience

·         People and Culture (including diversity and inclusion) expertise

·         Corporate communications expertise

·         International business and commercial development (e.g. legal, commercial, contractual, international trade, management of foreign subsidiaries)

* Candidates will be invited to join Audit Committee

To be successful your employer is required to be an Industrial Member of TWI Ltd, you ideally will have board or senior management experience, a strong understanding of good corporate governance and an ability to scrutinise and challenge company performance.
