Job Overview

We are seeking three qualified Inpatient Coding Specialists to join our Health Information Management team. This role requires expertise in coding for inpatient settings, particularly within Level II Trauma Centers, and involves interaction with Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately assign ICD-10-CM diagnostic and procedure codes for clinical encounters, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and CMS standards.
  • Collaborate with Health Information Management leadership to fulfill all coding assignments for inpatient admissions across various discharge departments.
  • Maintain strict adherence to Health Information Management (HIM) coding policies and interpret American Hospital Association (AHA) Official Coding Guidelines to support appropriate coding practices.
  • Ensure consistent engagement in performance improvement initiatives and uphold productivity and quality standards as defined by departmental leadership.

Required Skills

  • A minimum of five years of previous inpatient coding experience is essential.
  • Experience in acute care facilities and Trauma Level II coding is preferred.
  • AAPC, AHIMA, or other accredited coding certification is required, excluding apprenticeship classifications.
  • Proficiency in translating physician orders and diagnostic statements into accurate codes, along with a thorough understanding of CMS coding policies.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must possess at least five years of relevant inpatient coding experience.
  • Demonstrable expertise in coding across various discharge departments, including familiarity with specialties such as Recurring Wound Care, Home Health, and Inpatient Rehabilitation.
  • Certification in coding from recognized institutions (AAPC, AHIMA, or equivalent) is mandatory.
