Job description

Job Overview

Join a pioneering force in the renewable energy sector as a Renewables Real Estate Attorney specializing in Energy Storage. This remote opportunity allows you to contribute to a leading renewable energy enterprise that is actively engaged in the development and execution of transformative utility-scale energy storage projects. Supported by robust private equity backing, our company is rapidly expanding, having successfully secured over 9 GW of projects in a remarkably short period.

Key Responsibilities

In your role as the Renewables Real Estate Attorney, you will be integral to managing legal aspects related to real estate and land development. You will engage collaboratively with diverse teams across Project Development, Finance, EPC, O&M, and Transmission & Interconnection, performing the following:

  • Act as the subject matter expert in lease negotiations, land options, purchase agreements, easements, entitlements, and site control agreements for utility-scale renewable initiatives, including solar, wind, and energy storage.
  • Draft, modify, and negotiate all legal agreements pertinent to land for these projects.
  • Conduct thorough title, survey, and mineral due diligence processes, along with research on land use regulations and restrictions.
  • Safeguard the successful financial closure of renewable land development purchase and lease transactions.
  • Collaborate with external and internal stakeholders, including outside counsel, throughout the land acquisition journey and associated project financing legal efforts.

Required Skills

  • A minimum of 3 years of legal experience in substantial infrastructure land development and real estate transactions, preferably as a licensed attorney with a focus on grid-connected utility-scale renewables.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of land title concerns, mineral rights, and the project development permitting process related to real estate acquisition strategies.
  • Proven competence in drafting and reviewing key real estate documents such as purchase and sale agreements, lease terms, option agreements, easements, licenses, and covenants.
  • A solid background in land negotiations and significant commercial real estate transactions.
  • Proficiency in real estate financial closings and complex mergers and acquisitions transactions.
  • Familiarity with the utility-scale renewables origination and development process, including interconnection, permitting, PPA negotiations, and preconstruction is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Experience with a recognized law firm is strongly preferred.
