Summary of Job Duties:
Under the supervision of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute (WPRCI) Research Writer Manager, the Research Writer will be responsible for the development and of specific grant-funded projects and other special projects for the WPRCI. This person will initiate, develop, manage, and assist researchers in the preparation of research program, shared-instrument, and training grant applications to federal agencies and private foundations. The Research Writer will also generate, prepare, and assist in development of periodic WPRCI reports, promotional, and educational materials as needed. This person will work with other members of the Research Writing Team to prepare content for the WPRCI website and assist with Clinical Trials protocols as needed. The research writer’s agenda will be determined in conjunction with CI leadership and report to the Research Writer Manager.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in health related or other related; plus 3 years experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree

  • Candidates must have the ability to synthesize information into scientific format and logical arguments, and prepare figures and tables using contemporary software.

  • Experience working with physicians or scientists regarding development and submissions of research, publications, and other related academic activity preferred. Experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.  


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the administration and project coordination and management of special projects (as assigned) and specific grant-funded projects for the division.

  • Will initiate, develop, manage, and assist physicians and the Division Director in the preparation of research protocols, program, shared-instrument, and training grant applications to federal agencies and private foundations.

  • Will initiate, develop, and participate in research and administrative meetings. Will develop reports and planning documents.

  • Frequent interaction with UAMS-based researchers in the development and implementation of research projects and preparation of research grants and manuscripts.

  • Participates in meetings regarding research and administrative projects.  

  • Ability to schedule meetings with faculty researchers on own initiative and communicate with researchers to maintain project timelines.

  • Must be able to respond to changing priorities and assignments.

  • Must be able to handle sensitive material with complete confidentiality.

  • Will initiate, generate, develop, and assist in the publication of research findings and of manuscripts (eg, journal articles, abstracts, book chapters, etc.) for the development of department faculty academic 

  • portfolios. 

  • Will generate, prepare, and assist in development of periodic WPRCI reports (eg, annual research reports, general information articles, faculty development reports, etc.).

  • Will develop promotional and educational materials as needed.

  • Will help serve as webmaster for the WPRCI.

  • Will prepare and revise charts, figures, and other graphics for grant-funded and special projects. 

  • Other duties as assigned.
