JOB SUMMARY MacPhail Center for Music has a 35-year history of supporting music education instruction in a variety of K-12 settings and seeks additional instructors in winds, percussion, double bass, and instrumental ensembles. As our offerings continue to grow, there is high demand for these areas, and we are seeking experienced faculty for the upcoming school year. Candidates can learn more about our school offerings on the School Partnerships and Project Amplify pages of the MacPhail website.
As we set up new partnerships, our team will reach out to our roster of faculty. As such, there is no set schedule, and this position is considered “on-call.” This is an excellent opportunity for musicians looking to add more instruction to their current workload. There are both online and metro area opportunities available.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Foster a positive and flexible learning environment for students with a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels
Establish strong rapports with K-12 students and teachers
Provide expert music instruction to individuals and groups of students, including demonstrating the playing of the instrument in lessons and playing with the student
Provide clear communication with students and teacher on goals and progress
Participation in School Partnerships faculty meetings and professional development
Engagement in the overall work and mission of MacPhail Center for Music
Compliance with our COVID-19 policies
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS Education: A degree or certification in music education or applied performance Experience: Minimum of three years of instruction to a variety of experience levels. Experience teaching groups and strong behavior management required. Experience in diverse K-12 settings preferred. Skills & Abilities. Effective communication and organizational skills. Demonstrated cultural competency skills and commitment to contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. Physical Demands: Frequently (approximately 2/3 of the day) sitting, repetitive wrist motion, grasping/pinching, bending at knees, and twisting at the neck. Occasionally (approximately 1/3 of the workday) lifting (up to approximately 10 lbs), standing, keyboarding, writing, bending at waist, twisting at the waist and turning/pivoting.
