Purpose of the Position:

 

The Director of Corporate Development is responsible for managing and executing Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) based on the organization’s strategic growth vision

 

UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus. 

  • Anticipated starting salary of $120,000-150,000; based on experience and qualifications.

What You’ll Do:

  1. Lead M&A Strategy and Execution: Lead the overall development and execution of UMA’s M&A strategy based on the organization’s strategic growth vision.
  2. M&A Business Development: Identify M&A opportunities based on monitoring industry trends and interactions with executive leadership, external investment bankers/private equity firms, and organic pipeline generation.
  3. Target Screening and Deal Valuation: Lead M&A processes around target screening, strategic evaluation of opportunities, financial modeling, deal valuation and structuring, and deal negotiations.
  4. Due Diligence and Integration Planning: Lead overall due diligence processes for potential deals.  Manage relationships with external advisors and internal cross-functional teams to coordinate due diligence and integration planning.
  5. Manage Corporate Development Function: Manage and evolve the ongoing processes, tools and skill sets to build out the overall corporate development competency. Additionally, support special strategy projects as required.
  6. Lead with Care: Lead, coach, and develop team members, fostering a culture of wellness, recognition, and engagement. Meet regularly with direct reports in one-on-one and group settings to provide feedback and cultivate/maintain a positive work culture.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, statistics, finance, economics, or related area of study, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years’ experience in investment banking, private equity, corporate development, corporate finance, strategy, business management, consulting, or related field.
  • Previous experience in Investment Banking or Private Equity.
  • Skills – business acumen, executive communication, critical thinking, conflict resolution, influence, negotiation, PowerPoint/Excel, presentation skills, and mediation skills.
  • Ability to professionally communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
  • Ability to support a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Computer literacy/basic computer skills to effectively navigate and utilize the technology required for the role.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Any advanced degree or equivalent experience, especially in business administration, statistics, finance, economics, or related.
  • Strong or advanced proficiency in any of the above required skills/experience.
  • 10+ years’ experience in corporate finance, strategy, business management, consulting, or related field.
  • CBDP, CMAP, PMP, or related certification.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Microsoft Teams.
  • Other skills or abilities – experience in private sector education or similarly regulated environment, people leadership, collaboration, teamwork, and persuasion.

Compliance: 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable state laws and rules, federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, state regulations and internal policies and procedures.  
  • Effectively communicate compliance requirements to other staff as appropriate and quickly escalate any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.  

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • This is a full-time remote position, with only occasional, planned onsite or travel requirements.
  • Home office set up, quiet place to work, ability to be on camera, and ability to hard wire into high-speed internet connection.
  • May require setup of computer equipment; accommodation consideration available upon request.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
