Job Overview

We invite you to join our esteemed finance team in a pivotal role as a Staff Accountant (Contract Position) - Remote. In this capacity, you will significantly contribute to managing cash, disbursements, and accounting functions. Your primary focus will be on General Ledger tasks while supporting various finance-related tasks. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining journals for balance sheet and income statement accounts, reconciling accounts, addressing audit inquiries, and assisting with core treasury functions such as cash management and electronic payments.

You will engage in a diverse array of accounting and bookkeeping responsibilities while adhering to established policies and procedures. This position may also require your involvement in projects and additional duties as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain journals, ensuring precise reconciliation and review for all revenue and accounts receivable streams as well as related bank transactions.
  • Prepare daily bank deposits and allocate unassigned cash.
  • Assist with online banking operations and investigate cash receipts, including the coding and posting of receipts.
  • Assign General Ledger (GL) codes, formulate journals for management review, and ensure their entry into the appropriate financial systems.
  • Review and reconcile activities recorded to cash and designated GL accounts promptly.
  • Produce accounting statements and reports as needed.
  • Support month-end, quarterly, and year-end reporting, audits, and inquiries.
  • Aid in the annual budget preparation and review monthly/quarterly rent determination requirements.

Qualifications

  • Goal-oriented with a minimum of 2 years of substantial accounting experience, ideally in a nonprofit context.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (mandatory).
  • Proficient in relevant software and systems, including:
    • Sage Intacct
    • Financial Edge
    • Fundraising software (experience with Altru preferred)
    • Accounts Payable platforms (e.g., AvidXchange, BILL)
    • MS Office (Excel: V-Lookups, Formulas, Pivot Tables)
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Preferably experience in public accounting or extensive nonprofit accounting background.
