Job Title: MEP Estimator - Remote | Work from Home

Job Overview

We are on the lookout for a talented and dedicated MEP Estimator to enhance our team and play a pivotal role in our construction initiatives. In this capacity, you will conceptualize and accurately calculate the costs associated with the Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Electrical (MEP) elements of our projects. Your collaborative efforts across disciplines will be instrumental in ensuring complete coverage of project scopes, thereby contributing to the overall success of our endeavors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret technical drawings and specifications to establish scope and quantities for pricing.
  • Engage with subcontractors to secure competitive pricing for MEP projects, confirming all scopes of work and pricing are comprehensive.
  • Employ advanced estimating software to calculate material quantities with precision.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and perform site evaluations to understand site conditions.
  • Assess MEP components of preconstruction projects, generating budgets from schematic through to finalized construction documents.
  • Maintain effective communication with team members, bid captains, and estimating managers regarding project scopes, pricing, and construction details.
  • Generate complete and accurate estimates for MEP trades, ensuring alignment with budgetary goals.
  • Formulate strategies for pursuing and winning competitive bids.
  • Participate in Value Engineering and Constructability reviews, offering professional presentations of findings.
  • Source MEP subcontractors and suppliers necessary for project execution.
  • Present MEP estimates to internal teams and external stakeholders, including owners, architects, and engineers.
  • Evaluate projects, recommending alternatives to enhance profitability or efficiency.
  • Assist the Estimating Team in preparing estimate reports, documentation, and presentation materials.
  • Engage in hand-off meetings with Estimators, Project Managers, and Superintendents.
  • Actively take part in community and trade organizations, fostering both personal and professional growth.

Required Skills

  • Comprehensive understanding of MEP systems and controls, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical systems.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting MEP drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with essential MEP equipment such as FCU, WSHP, AHU, RTU, ERV, EXH, VRF, and plumbing booster pumps.
  • Knowledgeable in relevant building codes, DOH requirements, NFPA, NEC, ASHRAE, and SMACNA standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to facilitate effective collaboration with contractors and colleagues.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction Technology, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3-10 years of construction experience with a robust understanding of construction management, architecture, or engineering.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for remote office needs and job site visits.
  • Willingness to be on call and available for overtime or weekend work as necessary.
