The role

The Saab People & Culture team are expanding and seeking an experienced People & Culture Advisor to join our newly created People Advisory team.

Reporting to the People Advisory Lead, the People & Culture Advisor enables employees, managers and leaders through the provision of accurate and timely advice and guidance on all people related matters. The incumbent will interpret Saab’s policies and practices and apply their solid understanding of industrial and employee relations to ensure successful management of IR/ER matters, Service Hub tickets and employee life-cycle activities.

With a passion for strong customer service, the People Advisor is focused on providing legislative compliance, coaching and advising leaders and employees on the implementation of processes that positively contribute to culture, engagement, business performance and the employee life-cycle, aligned to the people strategy and plans. 

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Coordinate and manage employee relations issues by providing timely and consistent coaching, advice and support to both leaders and employees.
  • Coach leaders and employees through Saab policies and procedures to ensure harmonious and productive workplace relations are maintained, and compliance with Australian legislative requirements is met at all times.
  • Guide and support leaders and employees through all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, induction, employment changes, remuneration, probationary periods, performance management, employee relations, talent and capability management and any other P&C related policy or process.
  • Effectively interpret modern awards, Saab policies and procedures to provide sound advice to leaders and employees.
  • Contribute to initiatives that enable and uplift people and culture practices across Saab and enhance the effectiveness and efficiency with which employees, managers and leaders engage in employee lifecycle and cyclical people and culture.
  • Possess a strong focus on delivering exceptional customer service, enabling employees, managers and leaders to implement employee lifecycle and cyclical people and culture initiatives with excellence and confidence.  .

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and part time will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Demonstrated success and experience working in a similar P&C role, ideally within defence or an equally complex, fast-paced environment.
  • High-level knowledge of, and ability to interpret applicable legislation, industrial relations instruments, policies and frameworks.
  • Astute problem solver, able to engage stakeholders to understand issue, apply relevant policy, procedure, legislation and frameworks and provide advice/guidance to enable problem resolution
  • Commercially and politically astute.
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to influence leaders to take the right approach.
  • Capacity to manage multiple competing demands and prioritise effectively
  • Knowledge and understanding of contemporary and best practice HR approaches.
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience working in a people and culture or human resources role, with 1 or 2 years working in an Advisory role.


As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance to baseline level or have the ability to gain one.
