Job description

Job Summary

As a Disaster Recovery Engineer, your primary function will be to give our clients' peace of mind and exhibit technical expertise by planning, executing, and reporting on Disaster Recovery Tests. A driven, energetic, independent, and motivated individual, you will interact with all business, management, and technical teams to develop consolidated project plans, status reports and metrics spanning all project areas. This position will be primarily remote with occasional in-office meetings, has a flexible work schedule and requires the availability to work occasional evening hours. 

Responsibilities (including but not limited to the following as required)

  • Day-to-Day hands-on responsibility to support the technical needs of the Disaster Recovery systems at Abacus.
  • Planning, organizing, scheduling, follow-up, problem resolution and status reporting on disaster recovery testing.
  • Capture and maintain evidence of application recovery tests for reporting and audit purposes. Ensure that issues are documented and closed.
  • Work closely with customers to document applications and their supporting infrastructure and to develop appropriate recovery plans that can be used by IT Support personnel in times of major outages and/or recovery tests.
  • Act as a project liaison to business projects and initiatives to assure IT disaster recovery is considered during projects.
  • Build and improve disaster recovery processes through knowledge and incorporating best practices from internal and external sources.
  • Evaluate and advise on selection of vendors to ensure service level agreements meet disaster recovery planning requirements.
  • Assure that all newly disaster recovery enabled applications, processes and services are fully tested prior to acceptance.
  • Ensure the company is prepared to recover key IT Systems in the event of a disaster, or communicate areas of risk where recoverability is unknown or uncertain.
  • Implement the disaster recovery plan(s) when IT and/or major business operations disruptions occur.
  • Coordinate with IT system owners to ensure consistency in process and to leverage technology for disaster recovery solutions wherever possible.
  • Maintain IT disaster recovery documentation consistent with policy and standards.
  • Maintain the backup systems leveraged by Abacus, and verify all backups are operational.

  • Experience with public cloud, such as Office 365 and Azure in particular
  • General scripting and PowerShell experience

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-4 years' experience in a client facing position 
  • Minimum 1-3  years’ experience in an systems engineer role  
  • Certifications a plus (MCSE, MCAA, VCP, CCP)  
  • VMWare Certified Professional a plus
  • Zerto certifications a plus
