Senior Cobol Developer

On behalf of our client, a global leader in IT services, we are seeking a motivated Cobol Developer to join their team. 

The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, testing, and maintaining software applications, ensuring they meet business requirements and are delivered with high quality. This role involves close collaboration with business analysts, functional analysts, and other technical teams, making it an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional passionate about both analysis and hands-on development.

Your day-to-day

• Develop and maintain stable and technically tested applications to meet user and business needs
• Work closely with users, stakeholders, and functional analysts to identify business needs and translate them into technical specifications
• Provide accurate workload estimates based on functional analyses and report progress regularly to stakeholders
• Consult with colleagues and functional analysts to ensure smooth development and efficient communication across teams
• Follow up on incidents, taking ownership of a domain or application to ensure continuity and reliability
• Perform unit testing to ensure applications meet the highest standards of quality and debug any program issues that arise
• Deliver applications in compliance with organizational standards, respecting procedures and working methods
• Offer end-to-end operational support, troubleshooting, and technical solutions to ensure uninterrupted application performance
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation to simplify future improvements or adaptations to the applications
• Stay current with the latest developments in programming and IT technologies through ongoing training and professional development

Requirements

• A degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Proven experience in software development and application maintenance, ideally in roles involving both analysis and development
• Strong knowledge of programming languages like COBOL, and experience with databases such as IMS and DB2 is a strong plus
• Experience in diagnosing technical problems and providing accurate and effective solutions
• Familiarity with incident follow-up and end-to-end responsibility for application support
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, including functional analysts, business analysts, and project managers
• A results-oriented mindset with excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues
• Strong communication skills in English, with French or Dutch being considered a plus
