Job description

Position Summary

The Michigan State University (MSU) College of Nursing invites applications for a Research Associate (postdoctoral fellow) with a focus on the research areas of Symptom Science and Management, Health Promotion and Illness Prevention, and Health Services Research. The goal of this position is to provide exceptional mentored research and training experiences in the areas of quantitative methods, qualitative methods, mixed methods, literature synthesis, implementation science, and data science.

College faculty collaborate across professions, other colleges, and universities and have current or recent funding from NIH, HRSA, and several other local, regional, and national organizations. College faculty also collaborate with a wide-ranging group of community and healthcare organizations to improve the economic, social, and cultural health and vitality of shared local, state, national, and global communities through health equity.

Postdoctoral Fellows will have access to exceptional resources to facilitate their own planning for the next stage of their research careers, including publishing and assistance with grant writing.

This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term position with reappointment contingent on satisfactory performance and available funding.

Duties & Expectations

  • Grant development and writing, including but not limited to collaboration with the research team and partners to carry out research activities
  • Institutional Review Board work and grant submission documentation
  • Data collection, data analysis, and data management for various College of Nursing research projects, with a focus on understanding and addressing social determinants of health disparities.
  • Manuscript preparation and submission
  • Present at local, regional, and/or national conferences
  • Be an active member in an area of research within the College of Nursing that prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion in a way that contributes to the College of Nursing’s ongoing efforts to promote health equity and address disparities.
  • The Postdoctoral Fellow will demonstrate and advance an independent plan of research
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate student scholars
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties within this classification

Required Degree

Doctorate -in Nursing or health-related research

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD in nursing or health-related research area (e.g., public health, psychology, health communication) from an accredited university
  • Prior research experience through involvement in research projects or research practica
  • Nurse applicants must be eligible for an RN License in the state of Michigan

Desired Qualifications

  • Desire and commitment to working with underserved youth, families, and young and older adult populations
  • Evidence of effective communication skills through professional presentation experience and/or professional publications
