The National Account Director, Government is responsible for the development, management and growth of key government relationships/accounts to achieve access, sales and gross-to-net maximization for Ferring Pharmaceuticals. Account responsibilities include government accounts (VA, DoD, Medicare, state Medicaid) as well as Medicaid state pools (e.g. Top$/Magellen, SSDC, Change Health/Optum, NMPI/Prime/Magellan) and Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC). The NAD will also be responsible for partnering with government affairs on federal and state public policies that impact patient access and reimbursement and evaluating the impact of legislation and regulations on Ferring products. The Account Director is expected to be an industry expert in the changing managed care marketplace, continuously pursue new business opportunities, negotiate favorable contracts, and collaborate with field sales to meet business objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed business and account planning and analysis to assess profitability and desirability of potential customers before entering into contractual relationships.
  • Present products scientifically and financially to customers to obtain access.
  • Negotiate mutually beneficial corporate contracts for assigned national accounts to maximize business opportunities, ensure distribution and reimbursement, and profitability of the Ferring Pharmaceuticals product line.
  • Systematically measure contracts for compliance and rebates for claim validity. If necessary, negotiate terms and settlement of issues protecting Ferring interests while maintaining relationships with customers.
  • Improve field sales force ability to sell in the managed care environment, by communicating the dynamics of the Managed Care selling environment, formulary status and pull through campaign plans, economic influences and physician prescribing habits.
  • Provide leadership, marketplace insight to sales groups on key issues of national significance for managed care trends and the impact of the national accounts they manage.
  • Identify opportunities for Ferring Pharmaceuticals by creating or coordinating strategic account management teams.
  • Build Ferring’s image as a leader in Managed Markets by engaging in promotional activities and by attending conventions, meetings, and symposiums as assigned or directed.
  • Provides access by selective, multi-year contracting with programs having the ability to enhance or hinder the selection, reimbursement, and utilization of Ferring products. They also create national and regional pull through programs.
  • Manage key government accounts (CMS, including MACs, FSS members, Medicaid) to ensure access and reimbursement optimized.
  • Develop and execute account planning to achieve objectives including organizing corporate resources to achieve outcomes.
  • Monitor and report, in collaboration with Government Affairs, on government policy proposals and determine potential financial and operational impact to Ferring.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • 10+ years of experience in account management role(s).
  • 7+ years of experience in government program account management.
  • Thorough understanding of medical policies (Buy and bill process) and Pharmacy benefit.
  • Documented access to both medical and pharmacy directors in government programs.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills, be financially astute, and have computer proficiency.
  • Significant experience or proven ability to negotiate with, and sell to, top corporate and senior decision makers in a Managed Market.

Physical Requirements:

  • This is a field based role and the final candidate may live anywhere in the US
  • Travel: up to 50%

Our Compensation and Benefits

At Ferring, base salary is one part of our competitive total compensation and benefits package and is determined using a salary range. The base salary range for this role is $220,000 to $250,000, which is the reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount paid may differ based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, education and primary work location. Additional compensation for this role will be provided based on competitive annual incentive compensation targets in the form of sales commissions - payouts are based on individual and geography/company performance.

Benefits for this role include: comprehensive healthcare (medical, dental, and vision) with a premium differential, inverse to base salary, to be paid by employees; a 401k plan and company match; short and long-term disability coverage; basic life insurance; wellness benefits; reimbursement for certain tuition expenses; sick time frontloaded yearly of 40 hours, or higher if state or local law requires; vacation time for full time employees to accrue between 112.5 and 150 hours yearly in the first four (4) years of employment, and additional accruals starting in the fifth (5th) year of employment; and 12 to 13 paid holidays per year. For roles that are not field-based, Ferring has a policy that allows employees to work up to two days from home and three at a Ferring site, weekly.
