Cohen & Company is seeking a Tax Senior Manager or Managing Director with a focus in REITs, Private Equity Real Estate Funds, and Private Developers, and an entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to client service to join our team!
Responsibilities:
Business Development:
- Responsible for strategy and growth of the firm’s REIT services, including identifying market trends, anticipating opportunities, and developing go-to-market strategies/plans
- Build strong relationships and interact regularly with clients, internal client partners and up-and-coming talent, external industry groups, Centers of Influence, industry Market Leaders in adjacent sectors, and Service Line Leaders – coordinating to align skills with market trends and drive strategic technical leadership hires
Client Experience:
- Serve and build relationships with clients, monitoring client service and value proposition, acting as trusted advisor to ensure we are a premium provider providing quality work, open communication, sound advice, and proactive service
- Develop a comprehensive approach to meet the needs of REIT clients, including leadership around REIT structuring and compliance with a focus on scaling the practice and demonstrating intellectual curiosity to ensure client needs are met
- Work with private equity real estate funds on entity structure, waterfall calculations, and 704(b) and 704(c) issues
- Work with private developers on tax strategy, succession planning, and acquisition/divestiture planning
- Adjust client pricing, strategy, and services as necessary
Leadership, Mentorship & Staff Development:

- Provide mentoring and motivation to the team, including developing young leaders via active contribution to training and development

Technical:
- Perform Senior Manager or Managing Director level tax advisory, compliance review and tax return signoff
- Serve as a go-to resource for technical questions or knowledge
- Act as a technical and/or business leader both internally and externally
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree; CPA or JD
- 10+ years of progressive experience within tax, preferably in a public accounting firm and including leadership experience with a consistent record of accomplishment and accountability.
Estimated Salary Range: $100,000 - $250,000*
