Job Description

Provides support both clinically and administratively to the Division of Human Genetics within the Department of Internal Medicine.  Collects and maintains data on patients seeking genetic testing at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center which includes: preparing genetic counseling charts, assisting with pre-authorization for visit/testing, completing clinical paperwork and database entry, receiving and entering test results in database/patient medical record, following-up with patients after testing, coordinating request, returns and safe packing of patient samples, scheduling/confirming disclosure visits;  recruits and consents patients for clinical trials and manages regulatory files for research studies; interacts with patients, physicians, vendors and other staff both within the clinic and at outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information; assists with identifying and resolving operational concerns and ensures appropriate actions are taken to meet division goals, guidelines & deadlines; reviews, screens and triages inquiries and concerns to appropriate individual to further investigate and resolve; collaborates across departments and build effective relationships with internal and external customers.

Minimum Education Required:

Bachelor’s Degree; two or more years of experience in a health care environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Additional Education Desired:

Bachelor’s degree preferred

Required Qualifications: Familiarity of medical records content, chart review and abstraction and an understanding of medical and genetics terminology desired. Experience in human genetics and other related genetics data management desired. Requires successful completion of a background check. Qualified candidates may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.

Knowledge and strong and efficient interpersonal, verbal, and written communication to handle sensitive and confidential situations.  Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.  Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software (Microsoft Suite). Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing, and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines
