What you’ll be doing…  

This University of Michigan Co-op position, which is part of the Verizon Campus Program, will allow you to channel your drive and enthusiasm as part of a 6-month rotation from January 13, 2025, to July 11, 2025, working a full-time schedule. You’ll be front and center, hands-on, and contributing your creative energy to high-impact projects from the moment you arrive.

As a Co-op with the Transport Engineering team, some of the projects you may work on could enhance your skills in one or more of the following areas: 

  • Provide technical support and project management for the design, acquisition, and implementation of equipment supporting network infrastructure projects.

  • Vendor Management duties including engineering/design, tracking budgets, procurement, and project management.

  • Interact with engineering and network planning for existing products that support our infrastructure.

  • The position regularly works with other groups’ forecasts to ensure equipment growth projects meet expectant demands in support of the company’s objectives.

  • This job also may include being tasked with the development of an engineering database for documentation of all fiber assets; plant, FDP panels, and contract management.

  • Work in cross-functional teams.

  • Develop your professional network within Verizon.

You must be currently enrolled in a qualifying bachelor’s degree program at the University of Michigan and be in good academic standing to be considered.

This Co-op position will be based out of Southfield, MI (Detroit, MI), and follow a hybrid work schedule as set by the manager, including work-from-home and intentional in-person days. If relocation is required, relocation assistance may be available.

You’ll need to have:

  • Ability to participate in our 6-month co-op that takes place from January 13, 2025, to July 11, 2025, working a full-time schedule.

  • Current enrollment in a University of Michigan Bachelor’s degree program in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Analytics, Data Science, or a related major with an expected completion date between December 2025 and June 2026. 

  • Coursework or demonstrated experience in scripting and coding (ex: Python, Java, React,  NodeJS,  NextJS, Javascript/Typescript).

  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for future sponsorship.

  • Willingness to travel and work in an assigned Verizon office.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Familiarity with Intelligent Edge Network. 

  • Understanding of Capacity Management (Layer 1 & 2). 

  • Project management experience. 

  • Business analytics skills. 

  • Programming: Tableau, Splunk. 

  • Demonstrated strong written and communication skills. 

  • Experience in Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite. 

  • Knowledge of network topology.
