Job Title: Architectural Historian III

FLSA Status: Exempt, Salary

Reports To: Senior Project Manager

Job Type: Full-Time, Regular

This position can be fully remote from anywhere within the United States, although 10%-25% travel is required.

JOB SUMMARY: The Architectural Historian III is responsible for conducting Cultural Resources investigations and reports of above-ground resources for Section 106 consultation, conducting historic resources surveys, and National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) evaluations. The position will work on a wide range of projects in the government and private sector and support departments across the organization. This position is a project management role, under the supervision of the Senior Architectural Historian.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:

  • Manage all scopes of work for a variety of project types.

  • Provide NRHP eligibility evaluations.

  • Assess potential effects to historic properties.

  • Conduct reconnaissance-level and intensive-level architectural surveys nationwide.

  • Conduct archival research at local repositories including libraries, archives, museums, and land record offices, among others.

  • Prepare architectural descriptions and complete Architectural Survey Inventory Forms.

  • Prepare technical reports for Section 106 cultural resource investigations.

  • Development of historic contexts and the preparation of NRHP nominations.

  • Oversees fieldwork.

  • Assists in training and career development of Architectural Historian I and II.

  • Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright’s and Eocene Environmental Group's culture of safety and employee ownership.

  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures.

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • MA/MS in Historic Preservation, City/Regional Planning, History, or a similar field of study.

  • Must meet the Secretary of Interior’s Qualification Standards in History, Historic Architecture and/or Architectural History, or Historic Preservation.

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Cultural Resources Management/consulting or other related industry where report preparation is a principal responsibility.

  • Demonstrated experience in conducting research for historic properties.

  • Demonstrated experience in conducting historic resource surveys and writing architectural descriptions.

  • Experience in preparing Cultural Resource Reports for Section 106 consultation.

  • Experience in land records search and establishing a complete chain-of-title for a historic property.

  • Demonstrated experience in preparing NRHP eligibility evaluations and assessment of effects.

  • Strong written and verbal communication is essential. The candidate must be willing to provide samples of work demonstrating writing ability, historic context development, and knowledge of American Architectural History.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of AutoCad Light

  • Working knowledge of GIS technology

  • Experience in the preparation of NRHP nominations

  • Experience in preparing Rehabilitation Tax Credit Applications

  • Experience in developing Historic Preservation Plans and/or Design Guidelines

  • Experience with community involvement including local governments, community and religious leaders, and residents.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds, on occasion.

  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions in outdoor environments.

  • Ability to travel, oftentimes out of state for multiple days at a time.
