Job description

We’re on a mission to democratize AI by building the definitive AI data development platform. The AI landscape has gone through incredible change between 2016, when Snorkel started as a research project in the Stanford AI Lab, to the generative AI breakthroughs of today. But one thing has remained constant: the data you use to build AI is the key to achieving differentiation, high performance, and production-ready systems. We work with some of the world’s largest organizations to empower scientists, engineers, financial experts, product creators, journalists, and more to build custom AI with their data faster than ever before. Excited to help us redefine how AI is built? Apply to be the newest Snorkeler!

At Snorkel AI, we are pioneering new approaches to data development. We are seeking a motivated and organized senior program manager to support new initiatives in our Research department. This is a high-ownership opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge approaches to data development. This role requires a blend of skills and experience including vendor management, operations management, resource planning, and familiarity with human data labeling/annotation.

This role is a contract position for now - assuming we find a mutual fit within the first 3 months, we have high confidence this will be converted to a permanent position. The rate for the first 3 months of this project $85/hour (open to OT).

Main Responsibilities
  • Conduct resource planning to estimate and address hiring needs for program execution. Partner with the People team to recruit and onboard new team members into the program.
  • Identify potential risks and issues related to program execution. Develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans to address and manage risks effectively.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between Snorkel Research and external vendors/partners who may support the program. This includes vendor selection, facilitating relationships, assisting with contract negotiations, ensuring alignment with project objectives and deliverables, and creating standards and process guidelines.
  • Serve as a point of contact for our customers - liaise with their team on clarifying deliverables, communicating timelines and general updates on the project.
  • Develop and implement processes and documentation to support program execution. Continuously assess and improve operational workflows to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Work closely with research, engineering, and other teams to align goals and deliverables. Facilitate communication and collaboration across teams to drive program success and address any cross-functional challenges.
  • Monitor and report on program performance metrics. Provide regular updates on program progress, risks, and issues. Propose and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Manage one or more program or project managers, providing day to day guidance and task prioritization.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 4+ years relevant work experience in program or project management in data or technology-driven environments. Demonstrated success in managing complex, cross-functional projects and programs.
  • Startup mindset - looking for someone who isn’t afraid of white space and can take something zero to one. Looking for collaborative spirit, a penchant for building and the flexibility + confidence to experiment and react in real time.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with a track record of managing complex projects effectively. Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with both internal teams and external partners.
  • Self-motivated with a strong problem-solving mindset. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Detail-oriented with a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
  • Experience managing human data labeling/annotation projects. Understanding of data development processes and AI technologies such as large language models (LLMs) is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, PMI-ACP) are a plus.
  • Previous experience working at a startup is a plus.
