Position Overview: 
 
The Technical Architect will work closely with the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) on smartcard engineering projects using custom MIFARE DESFire EV2/EV3 token architecture and setting/validating smartcard reader firmware standards. The role will also involve working on multiple access control system designs and deployments, supporting user data migration activities, deployment of site encryption keys and ensuring compliance to predefined standards. 
 
The role will be client-facing in an advisory capacity, providing technical support to the CTO who acts as the technical authority. The ideal candidate will have experience with smartcard engineering and access control systems, with coding in C at a low level with ARM processors as a bonus and will be willing to undergo UK security clearance. 
 
Key Responsibilities: 
 
  • Work closely with the CTO on smartcard engineering projects using custom MIFARE DESFire EV2/EV3 token architecture.
  • Set standards for, and validate vendor implementation of, reader firmware
  • Work on multiple access control system designs and deployments, supporting user data migration activities, deployment of site encryption keys and ensuring compliance to predefined standards.
  • Act as a technical support to the CTO in client-facing meetings and communications.
  • Provide technical expertise in the design and implementation of smartcard and access control systems.

  • Work closely with clients to understand their requirements and provide solutions.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for technical support.
  • Undergo and maintain UK security clearance as required for the role.
  • Coding in C at a low level with ARM processors (if applicable)

  • Experience with smartcard engineering and access control systems.

  • Experience in client-facing technical support role.
  • Willingness to undergo UK security clearance.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Coding in C at a low level with ARM processors is a bonus.
 
Education and Experience: 
 
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Professional certifications in smartcard engineering and access control systems is a plus.
