Project description

The National Coffee Institute (ICAFE, Instituto del Café de Costa Rica) has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Women in Agriculture Gender Policy Specialist. ICAFE leads the research, transfer and promotion of the brand Costa Rica Coffee and provides technical assistance to small producers and supports the adaptation of plantations to face the effects of climate change. A Gender Policy for the Costa Rican Coffee Sector was developed in 2022; however, ICAFE does not have staff specialized in gender, which hinders the capacity of the institution to develop specific actions to promote the equal participation of women in the coffee value chain.

The PCRV will design and implement a methodological guide with a gender focus for ICAFE's training processes, including minimum guidelines, and design of an educational methodology for producer families regarding equal participation in domestic and care work. The PCRV will also develop training and awareness workshops with a gender focus for internal facilitation at ICAFE and to be promoted externally for relevant stakeholders.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Costa Rica together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
